How to Cycle a Tank Kenny @HIGH TIDE

    Many are probably.

L/F leads on a possible frag swap location?

@JustinBolton - no excuse for you not to come to the swap this time :).

Tank Parameters all over the place

I have not met someone who uses this device. What are your sulfur water parameters? Any downsides using this? Expensive media? I have settled on zeolite for now but was deliberating for a while to use this. Curious to hear your experience. So you are running high phosphate and super low nitrates?

Tank Parameters all over the place

I knew we were still missing a perspective - it’s like a menu @spuri87, you chose :). I would be curious if you were to put all the recommendations into an LLM, what it would recommend to do.

How to Cycle a Tank Kenny @HIGH TIDE

I wonder if some people would have bought the tank as is since it looked so nice when @under_water_ninja was done with it. The immediate beginning is a difficult step in a reefer’s journey and buying a cycled tank could be appealing to some. Maybe a business idea to sell cycled nano tanks :)?

Tank Parameters all over the place

Sorry had to make a couple of comments on the salt statements you made above, with which I am not fundamentally disagreeing: I am note sure if the reference about which salts are most often used by professionals are not misleading. Quality Marine, uses Tropic Marin salt unless they changed very...

Tank Parameters all over the place

Thats actually the biggest downside of carbon dosing, that it will bring down both but often nitrates faster (relatively speaking since nitrate will always remain higher than PO4), and thats why I chose GFO (over lanthanum) to address PO4 specifically. Elimi NP is still good in bringing down...

Tank Parameters all over the place

Technically yes, but Bacto Balance also has nutrients in there and should not be used for nutrient reduction but nutrient maintenance. Only Elimi NP is their true carbon dosing product which acts less aggressively and immediately than eg Vodka does and is therefore my preference over these...

Tank Parameters all over the place

Lawrence made a good point. The coral pro needs to be used a few hours after mixing. So your method does not work well for this type of salt. something else. Carbon dosing is, some use vodka, some use reef products, good in feeding bacteria which accelerates consuming nutrients. @L/B Block I...

Tank Parameters all over the place

Mainly the handling is easier, as it will not color the water and does not need to be rinsed. Kolar is cheaper but needs to be rinsed.

Tank Parameters all over the place

Yes, if you are serious about lowering PO4, then you need to get that reactor working. I am not a fan of that Rowaphos. If you do not want to use the Fauna Marin product, I suggest to use this going forward...

Tank Parameters all over the place

With these PO4 parameters, you will have to do both. I forgot to ask, how do you run your GFO? In a media reactor? Which brand, and how much? The salt just does not make sense for many people, yet so many get this sold to through LFS, and I was one of them when I started out. While milleporas...

Tank Parameters all over the place

The problem statement is in the first sentence. SPS in a newly setup tank do not look too happy :) - surprise.

L/F leads on a possible frag swap location?

Great location - both on the inside and on the map. I might move in there after the swap.

Tank Parameters all over the place

Looks like today is water parameter day :). My suggestions: 1. Bring down nutrients. 2. Raise CA. 3. Leave MG alone until you address 1 and 2. Bring down nutrients. a) Nitrate - optimize skimmer / need to check if it runs at peak performance and if it is properly sized. Large water changes...

    Oceanic 40gallon Sps tank.

I just re-watched a presentation from Dr. Christoph Denk / Oceamo (in German), and he confirmed that they found rather high amounts of tin in some tubing products in their tests. They apparantly offer tests for tubing samples at relatively small amounts 12 USD, but I could not find this on...
