    Andrew's Mangrove/Macro/Softy Pico

The baby deresa clam was crashing my alk! These things suck up Alk/Ca really fast, not great for a pico with 5g of water. I don't want a doser on this tank, so I moved it to my reefer 250. I recently switched lighting from the Twinstar to Chihiros Magnetic 2. Amazing value for the money...

Tank Parameters all over the place

I think the advice of weekly ~20% water change is a good starting point. It's much more forgiving than trying to manage nutrient export, trace elements, algae, etc. without water changes. Of course, there are plenty of successful and amazing looking tanks that don't do regular WC, but this is a...

    Oceanic 40gallon Sps tank.

Here is a pic of my setup. For what it's worth, I've never had tin show up on my ICP and I'm using Red Sea brand dosing line.

    Oceanic 40gallon Sps tank.

You can stretch a small section of soft dosing tube over a 1/4” RO tube. I’ve done it before for different reasons. Yes you still have a small section of soft tubing, but better than the whole length if you believe it’s a source of contamination.

    PizzaOven '25 Budget Build

Update I added a torch which came in with a bacterial infection. This is how it looked when I got it. Yikes!! I cut off the infected head and treated for 5 days in an isolated container with medication: It was originally intended for my reefer 250, but I can't risk my other torches. I...

    A Macro Cube

Have you checked Ca/Alk/Mg? My bicolor blenny developed a taste for LPS (only favia, leptoseris). Have you noticed it picking at any coral?

    Oceanic 40gallon Sps tank.

The only thing that sticks out to me is high nitrates (84 mg/Liter = ppm). Maybe that's why your zoas and mushrooms look so fluffy. I wish mine looked like yours :) I guess high nitrates could also be a contributing factor to your (lyngbya)?

Torch order came in rough, advice?

Wow, that's really generous of you @dandemeyere ! I'll take you up on that if I lose this one. I've cut and removed 2 heads with visible infected tissue. The remaining 3-4 look OK. It's still in a 5g bucket with a powerhead, heater, and cheap light. My plan is to move it to a tank without any...

Torch order came in rough, advice?

Reply from vendor: "Thank you so much for reaching out to us. I'm sorry to see that one of the polyps of the 5-polyp torch didn't make it. Not to worry, partial DOA store credit will be provided for the polyp that didn't make it. I'm glad to see that the rest of the torch is okay. Our...

    WSJ Article about Fish Tanks

My stepmom clipped this article out of the paper for me. Mostly FOWLR with fake coral. I'm not gonna knock it but it ain't my cup of tea. This is what the average non-hobbyist thinks is a "cool fish tank."

Torch order came in rough, advice?

Thanks for the advice everyone. I'll keep it in the bucket for now and treat with Iodine. After that, I'll move it to a tank without any euphyllia. Multiple tank syndrome is finally paying dividends... I've reached out to the vendor as @tribbitt suggested. I'm going to give the vendor time to...

Torch order came in rough, advice?

I recently ordered a torch from an online vendor (not going to name names). It came in pretty rough shape. One of the heads looks like it's bailing out (or maybe BJD?) The box shipped with a cold pack and the bag still felt cool (~60F-70F) which was a relief given the hot weather. No way I'm...

Bugs on octospawn and hammers - Need help

While bugs are probably the primary issue, I also see vermetid snails at the base below the flesh. The webs can sometimes irritate coral. I would crush them and/or put a glob of super glue to cover them.

L/F leads on a possible frag swap location?

Yep, it's right next to raging waters. I've done a bit of grilling and chilling at the smaller picnic areas by the lake. Overall, I think it's pretty nice, but I would check it out for yourself. No special permission needed, but there is there is a parking fee of $5-10 for every car. Also, a lot...

L/F leads on a possible frag swap location?

I’m guessing outdoors is not an option due to weather and other logistics? There are some nice county parks nearby that do large group reservations (cheap) with bbq pits, covered seating and plenty of parking.

    Andrew's Red Sea Reefer 250

Oh wow... I used to have a firefish that liked to jump into the back chambers of my AIO. Was a real pain to get out lol.

That's crazy! Yeah, I should have gone for the 1/8" netting from BRS. For now, I'll just buy bigger fish.
