@HankDean V do you always run that polishing filter? I just picked one up when I was setting my new tank up. Do you run it with the carbon insert or the pleated filter?
I only run the polishing filter for a few hours at a time, I use the pleated cartridge.
I run a polishing filter rather than siphoning my sand bed.
For a wile I would “ storm” my sand bed with a little pump, blast all the gunk out. Let the filter pick it up.
Lately I do it by hand, a little more gently ,
The polishing filter gets the water back to crystal clear in a few hours.
Just part of weekend maintenance every few weeks or month.

I also pop it in the sump every several months, to yank out the detritus build up.

We should have had you on the tank tour! One of the nicest tanks I've seen in awhile, especially with the diversity of animals. Have the Bartletts anthias started to come out more @HankDean V ?
Unfortunately my house was full of plague the week before the tour so I canceled the stop at my place. Next time.
The Bartletts are good but chill in the shadows, had a few jumpers too.

That bright blue sponge is cool. How slow does it grow?
So incredibly slow. I’ve probably had it 14yr now and never really seen much growth.
But it’s not dead yet, that’s the win.
