got ethical husbandry?

150+ gallon tank build (fish room and all)

So a friend of mine was having issues with his tank so he decided it was time to upgrade
Here are some photos of the tank build

Tank is a Marineland 150 long with two overflows

He wanted the back glass blue we painted it royal blue with acrylic paint it took about 10 coats letting it fully dry in between coats

He wanted the stand in white so we primed it and painted it using a roller and brush it took about 5 coats

We shimmed it so it was level
(Sorry don’t have photos of that)

Then we plumbed it using 1 inch pvc
Both returns are on the same line the drains are on separate lines we have all the lines going down to the basement where fish room will be he did not want any unions personally i would have added unions on the bottom of each pipe and where the pipes meet the wall (he did change his mind and added 3 to where the pipes meet the wall)

And water testing with a level to make sure everything stays level

We bleached some rock for 2 days 5% bleach
Then used prime and now drying it

I will try to update this thread as often as i can feel free to ask questions as thats what we are here for
 
How did you glue your pieces together? A bit hard to see but looks like a "super glue" bottle, and then possibly an accelerator. How does that work out? I never felt that super glue was every very "permanent" of a solution to holding stuff to rocks whether it's rocks to rocks or little frag plugs, then again I never used an accelerator before either.

Bsi ice gell and bsi accelerator i create big pieces of rock that come apart when i do rockwork i want it to be permanent crazy glue comes apart if you put a little more pressure than normal so its not really permanent
 
so the IC Gel + Accelerator actually sticks it together strong enough to be permanent? Wow.

How much do you need to use? Are you going through a tube ever few rocks?
 
how does dual overflows work? do they plumb down to one gate valve and adjust that to match flow, or two valves and match flow? never really known
 
That ic gel is not something that you would want to use to hold together rocks. Its an accident waiting to happen.

Two drains to the sump is what you are supposed to do he wants one so we t it off as close to the sump as possible and we might add valves to control noise for now we will leave it and see how it turns out

You do know that IC Gel IS 'crazy glue' right?

I have been using ic gel to hold rocks together for 4-5 years
Never had any problems most of the rock is done dry and even the pieces that were done under water hold very well
I have even glued shelves with no problems

before that we use to use cement didn’t hold as well as bsi ic gell
 
I think I remember a youtube video of a company that built a floating shelf using a pane of glass then ic gel for rocks under it so yeah it can hold, and they probably used accelerator too... but I think they used a crap ton of the stuff.

Sorry, I thought it was a little ambiguous. You said your friend wanted to upgrade his tank and I wasn’t sure if that meant that you got his old tank (the one pictured) and he got a bigger one. Plus, I don’t think I’ve ever seen someone do a tank journal for someone else’s tank.

I told him he should do a build thread he told me he isn’t if i want i can

Didn’t have many options with the rock he wanted lots of swimming space with arches
its a fish only with possibly a reef plumbed in
