Our mission

Alex’s IM 150 EXT

There's a guy in Fremont selling that exact skimmer with an auto neck cleaner for a good price (half off retail). I can give you his info if you're interested in buying used. I passed on it because the external pump wouldn't work with my sump space, so I'm actually getting the space saver 220SSS elite version.

Yes please, thank you very much. And yes, this will fit into the sump the IM 150 comes with.

Decided on this skimmer - thoughts?

The stand is ready for the moving of the tank over the weekend. The sump is, as expected, larger than it should be, but it still looks nice. There is no space for a filter roller, but I am not sure if this will be an issue.

Leveling the stand now seems to be an issue since it cannot be in its final position until after the plumbing.

Fully agree. Super helpful and he did the same for me too.

Stand and sump look gorgeous

Glad we got it on the stand safe and sound. That’s a gorgeous setup. It was my first time seeing the IM sump and I’m very impressed by the build quality. Fun times ahead for you!

You are a pro-mover, for sure. Thanks for all your help. And for the record of this journal, you certainly talked me into getting the 150 vs the already large 100 haha :).

Now I just need to get the crawl space checked, as suggested by @psidriven, if another support beam is needed to support the weight. If anyone has any suggestions on how to go about this, i.e., how to determine if this is needed. I would be very much interested.

That’s super easy. Crawl under and look to see which way the floor joists run. Put a 4x6 across the joists perpendicular. Buy some cement footings and floor jack. Screw the jacks up until snug. Measure the top to bottom. Write the number down and check once in a while. If it sagging. Turn the jacks up more. This is what they look like.

So, I took some pictures, as the crawl space is rather challenging to access. Any thoughts here?

The floor joists are the long ones. All you need is to put a support beam under 90* where your aquarium sits. I measured out from the wall and guesstimate where the middle of my aquarium would be. I also used the whole piece of lumber to spread the load. What does the floor of the crawl space look like ?

Thank you. The floor of the crawl space is an uneven sand like substance, I assume the actual ground it is built on, so no solid even floor.
