I'm with Jar, if you can get away with it, switching to a ToU metering system with solar is fantastic, lovely state laws that say PG&E must buy at current rates from you (more to the point credit you). However if you have a lot of daylight running stuff (Air conditioning for instance) you might get yourself into a bit of trouble with ToU.
I seem to recall too that solar might have some issues with really high long loads, I used to browse a couple solar forums and seem to have seen that statement brought up a few times... but you what they say about what you read on the internet
