Alternative Trident Calibration Solution

Hey all, I’m looking for alternative ideas for the calibration fluid on a Neptune trident. I’m wanting to be able to calibrate it more frequent than once every 3 months. Thoughts?

Ive been using tank water and calibrating it against manual test kits i would have trusted without the trident.

Agree. The best approach isn’t calibration solution, but to test your water manually and then calibrate to that. Several advantages.

I have changed my testing schedule -so that it only does alk 2x a day and ca/mg 1x a day.
So I calibrate every two months.

If you order directly from them it’s fairly cheap. But you should calibrate against the solution as the optical curvette gets dirty over time so the solution helps calibrate against that as well.

I agree with above, tank water calibration against salifert (or your kit of choice). I do it every time I change a bottle of reagent.

Question -are you just running sailfert against a reading and if, lets say trident says 8.00 but seifert gives 8.1 you just know to add that .1 in?

Def more expensive. I think you can order it from Neptune cheaper -but then you need to pay for shipping!

That may be worth a bulk order!

You can do that but another way is to test with Salifert or whatever you trust then use the results you get to calibrate the Trident, intake tube still in your tank, so it reads the same.

No. I run all of my salifert tests. Write the number down. Then I go into the calibration settings on the Trident. I plug those numbers into it and then allow it to draw a sample of tank water and calibrate to those numbers.

Write the numbers down. You will forget by the time you need to enter them in.
Next, go into Apex fusion, find your Trident and go here

This will bring up another menu.
First click where I circled and put a number one. That will tell the machine it's going to calibrate. Next, input the numbers that you wrote down where I put the two.

Finally, scroll back to the top and click the send button to send the command to the cloud and then back to your Apex

The machine will take about 45 minutes and will recalibrate when it's all done. The numbers you input it will be on the screen.

On a side note, it is always a good idea to prime the sample and all three of the reagents before you do this. That way you know you are getting a fresh sample and there's no residual from a previous bottle of reagent in the tubing.

You should be good for a month.

Ohhh. In all my time with trident -never thought to do this.. -been running apex 7 years.. trident 3..4 years

I calibrate it once and a while with the included solution. It seems to match up close enough with my other testing methods. Seems to work just fine
