Anemone Problems - HELP!

My 12" rose anemone hasn't been opening 100% in the last week or so. It has this stringy gut-looking stuff coming out of its mouth. I read that is poop, but it isn't pooping it out. I think was over feeding them and the food is rotting inside of them. I only feed them once a week now. I'm not sure what is happening. What can I do to make the anemone better? All my parameters are fine. What is happening and can I do anything to make it better? The tentacles are not very sticky. :(

My knowledge of anemones are not good enough to really be of the best help to be honest, but you should throw down your tanks specs and how your water is testing, like in the previous thread.

Not poop, those are it's "guts".

Might want to rethink keeping anem's as BTA's are hard to kill :(

Oh and BTW the anemone isn't spitting out the guts. Ever since I got its tentacles have been ripping (not sure why) but this time one of the tentacles just exploded or something... IDK.

How about stop feeding it?

I haven't fed the one I got from Lyn in months, and it's been doing fine under PC lights.

If the anemone is falling apart, it sounds like water quality issues. Unless you have something in the tank tearing it up.

You mentioned about exploding tentacles before. Is your salinity on the low side?

Sounds like the anemone is really stressing.

What are your water parameters?

What temperature is that tank?

Are the temps stable throughout the day?

Are you getting enough O2 exchange?

How about some more pics?

Keep doing water changes.

I second what Apon says. Things are not looking good if your anemone is disintegrating. Do large water change (make sure salinity is at the correct levels), stop feeding, check parameters and keep the tank stable (like Mr. Ugly says). It would be best if you didn't keep BTAs for a while until things get under control and you are able to succesfully keep a marine aquarium without the mass die off you seem to be frequently getting. It would be highly beneficial if you read more reputable information (books) and believe (and do) what the experts say to do. Good luck.

If nems aren't happy they don't digest well. If they keep getting fed when not happy they end up with food rotting in their gut.

OK. Then how do I prevent this problem? Do I feed only once a week instead of twice a week?

make them happy first, then feed (find the root cause of their unhappiness) .
Thank you, that really was the whole point of my post.

You know, if these anemones keep dropping at this rate, you may want to strongly consider relocating them with another reefer. JMO.

Matthew, stop feeding them. If they get food that drifts by, then fine, but stop target feeding them.

My general advice is to sit back and enjoy the tank, stop fiddling with it. Do the water changes, scrape the algae off the glass and feed your fish (very little!).

Trying to adjust things all the time will never let you pinpoint any problems.

You might want to put them in a bigger tank too, so that the larger water volume will help with the stress level in your tank.

Hey there,

I let my 2nd Gen RTBA loose today, and it's happily staying in the place it's been for the past week or so.

I think this thread needs some uplifting: I hope you enjoy these photos. Top left is 1st gen RBTA and bottom left is 2nd gen RBTA. I'll post these photos along with my new R2 lighting solution that reflects the Full Moon Cycle that we entered into today. I think these R2s are great.

Have a good weekend,
reef keeper

Hey Matthew and anyone who may still may be following this tread...,

I found the link to the phosphate control product I posted about earlier, but did not know the name of it. I found it on Marine Depot when I was comparing GFO prices. The good thing about this liquid stuff is that they have it listed as buy one ($32.99) get the second one free. I don't know why, but here is the link for anyone interested (This is a better deal than Petsolutions.com sells it for (FWIW) : http://www.marinedepot.com/Buy_One_Get_One_FREE_Blue_Life_Phosphate_Control_1oz_Phosphate_Remover_Additives-Blue_Life_USA-BL21311-FIADSAPR-vi.html

Good Luck an Good Reefing
