I got 7 females and 1 male lyretail in mine. They'll still fight and develop a pecking order, but not enough to kill the runt of the females IME. The male is just an A hole no matter which way you slice it. The only one he bows down to is the purple tang.

I have 4 lyretails in my 125. Last week one turned male and now all of them are constantly fighting. Should I add a couple more small females to the tank spread it out?
More fish, much bigger tank
;)
Ya know, like the ocean!

At least this is my case - I have a bimacs male 1 inch bigger than the male lyretail - the bimacs keeps everyone in order in less aggressive way
