any ideas how to mount this fan?

I bet a good fan just pulling air through the stand would be almost as good

Quick fix but not aesthetically pleasing is using an egg crate and tying the fan to it. Should the fan be pulling/ or pushing air? Previously I used a fan to push to agitate the water, but I am hearing a lot of people mentioning pulling lately.

If you're looking for evap cooling, the you should be pushing air over the water.
I think what you're hearing is that they're pulling in air to go over the water

You can probably make either work. I’m saying pushing air out of the stand. Pulling from inside the stand. You could make a little intake for the fan near the sump maybe.
I wouldn’t want to mount it where you have it just because it’s so close to water there

I cut a lid out of polycarbonate and used nylon screws to mount it. Been around 1.5 years and fan is still working fine.

Is that a Noctua? Somehow I have the same looking one. Where did you get the polycarbonate and how did you cut it?

Tap plastics scrap bin - $1-2 a sheet usually.
Used a jigsaw and then a router.
Yes, it’s a Noctua IP67 fan.
