Cali Kid Corals

Anyone going to Reef-A-Palooza?

So I got this flyer in my MarineDepot for Reef-A-Palooze in SoCal. Is anyone going to this? If you've gone before; was it any good?

I go every year, and have been to every single one. Awesome event. Something you won't see in the Bay Area, that is for sure. The sher size alone is impressive.

I've contemplated going as I"ve heard it's a big event, the drive down & back is a bit much for coral shopping, but sounds like it's a lot more than just coral shopping and would be worthwhile.

My girlfriends sister lives in Long Beach so I'd have a place to crash. I'd probably fly but not sure if I could bring back corals on the plane?

So it sounds like it is worth seeing...anyone else going?

I drive and have no issues bringing back coral :) I even drive back on Monday and they are still fine. You just need to take precautions.

Flying you'd have to check them in. YOu have to be up front with the people at the check in. I bring the box untaped so they can look inside and I tell them they are live corals or fish. I tell them I ship stuff all the time and even have my business card handy if they don't believe me, but none have questioned me yet. One thing is to have the bagged corals/fish triple or quadruple bagged, then have a thick garbage bag you can tie around them after the check in people are done inspecting it. Then tape the styro closed and all points on the outer cardboard box that have exposed flaps.

Others say they are live marine plants as if you say coral you may confuse them into thinking they are animals :) planimals FTW

Well if I go I'll try to meet up with anyone who's down there. Maybe I can have Gresham bring back my corals instead of having to pay a million dollars to check a bag ;)

I may swing it this year... have some other SoCal stuff to do in the area and I can move it later in the week, won't go to buy coral but just to look at the setup :) Gresham says its large, I better be dwarfed by shear size of things... as long as its not a manus.

Don't know what days I'll be there, maybe Sunday only, I'll have to see as we get closer and my time schedule pans out, either way I'm looking to take a *cough cough* mental health day from work on Mon/Tues :D

Sorry but given I live in Santa Cruz and will be returning monday, Im probably not the best person to bring coral home for anyone :(
