Are these tanks really "common"?

So I was looking up tank dimensions on a website titled "common aquarium dimensions or something like that, and they listed 33/40/45 Long tanks as being common with dimensions of 4'x1'x12"/16"/19". I know they can be made, just wondering how common they are/how hard it is to get hold of one of them. That said, anyone have a favorite place to pickup a standard 55g or so in the south bay?

More common back east, just like 3' tanks are more of a standard there then here where 4' is our standard.

I believe all 3 sizes are made by All Glass (Aqueon) and are listed in the Central Pet catalogue. They should all be available to any store w/ a Central account.

Yup, but not many order that size out this way :(

Personally, I don't like standard 55's for reef tanks. They need extra lighting to offset the depth and the surface area to volume ratio sucks which means extra $ on circulation. Plus it's hard to get a good 3D aquascape out of a 12" base tank. You might consider the 70g or 90g w/ the 48"x18" footprint.

Hah, I know they do. But I'm being limited on my dimensions (outvoted by housemates 4-1). At least they're willing to let me upgrade though. I'd love to use a 40L, but it all depends on price. I'm doing this on the super-cheap :D

And got your PM Jim, thanks for the heads up. I'll call them when they open.

Hah, I wish. 5' would really be pushing it and I'd have to make the tank look a whole lot better than it already does to make them think it's worth it. 4' is about the limit.

Phong- if I weren't renting, I would already have an in-wall peninsula style where the fireplace is right now....

based off dimensions, I'm stuck with
23L, 30g, 33/40/45L or 55g. With the 23L and 30g, it's just about not worth upgrading just for the 6" longer.

To Jim and Gresham- I found a 40L. Bangkok Aquarium in SJ is going out of business and all of their stock tanks are pretty much 30L and 40L tanks. Took me a good 20-30min of looking hard to find one that still looked like it had a good seal w/ the silicon and wasn't actively leaking, but I found one. Pretty cheap too, 30-40 for the 30L, 40-50 for the 40L.

Place was up for sale for quite some time then posted closing on CL; it's sad to know small businesses are closing; I wonder when are we see the end of this economic catastrophe...
