Are you growing anything out for the next frag swap?

Have a couple of exo frags I’m also growing out. Hope they grow decently well so I can bring at least a couple frags of those to the next swap.

What’s the cc 21 tails looks like?

I need to frag my leathers again. First time in in a while I don't actually have anything to frag beyond leathers or maybe zoas but the zoa tank has bad hair algae so it's a big maybe.
 
DBTC: spicy favia is growing well, might not be ready for next swap, Scrambled eggs zoas are doing well, ready, and some burning bush is ready.

Frags: possibly clove polyps, was a tiny frag I originally received but they are growing fast! Green nepthea, going to frag up some pandora palys soon, and contemplating fragging my tequila sunrise mushroom. Its getting big, not sure if I should wait for it to drop babies, or frag it
 
I'm not sure if I'll be able to bring corals the next time around because of nudis.

By then I'd have the montis all clean from weekly dips, QT, and constant observation, but the fallow main display might have one or two residual adults - 7 months fallow is a long time.

What do you guys feel about live-tissue frags of non-MEN-susceptible corals? I'd put a disclaimer on the lids.

I have plenty of non-monti DBTC as well
 
I would consider grabing something from clear water or getting him to hold something for you. Otherwise i'm sure one of us could cover your entry. Definitely not a pest anyone would wanna risk getting no matter the low odds. It would only take one or two stray eggs for someone else to have that problem.

Have these exospheres and Jedi Mink tricks growing out, hopefully I have fraggable polyps by the swap.

Also picked up these 2 CB rainbow crush chalices. If I have luck with these as I had with my space invaders, I’ll have dinner plate size colonies in a couple years. Hopefully they are fraggable by the next swap though! Have already grown down the plug and onto the desk in the week and a bit that I’ve had them.

I'm in a similar boat. I have so many frags I could give away right now, however having Monti nudis I don't think it's right to do. If anyone's interested though, lmk.

I have so many huge semi-colonies of purple cap, green goblin, rainbow encrusting, strawberry encrusting, ... All are very healthy, and I'm confident if someone swaps the plug and if feeling really crazy cut off the bottom and cover it with glue they'd be fine.

I'm curious what others think, but I feel if people want to grab them DBTC style with known disclaimers it's good to go, but swapping from tanks with known pests like this should be considered not acceptable.

I personally wouldn't mind for dbtc as I have no montis but I agree it's different in the swap proper when people may grab something unaware of risk.

I just planned on writing on my lids how long its been since I dumped my montis/last saw a nudi
 
For frag swaps we don’t want serious pests being traded on the tables. Having a disclaimer is a nice gesture but not sufficient- It’s just too hectic and a lot of what is written is not easily legible, plus newer reefers don’t know the difference between a serious pest and a minor manageable one, or how seriously to take any given warning. Having pests like MEN being spread throughout our community from swaps is a very serious concern. The risk to the community and the club’s reputation isn’t worth it.

If you want to arrange 1-on-1 trades or DBTC with a personal discussion about the risk with a knowledgeable reefer, go for it. But again, not on the DBTC table where there’s no discussion.

This is just my understanding of what most of us have agreed on over the years. If we wanted to change things that would be up to the frag swap coordinator- Josh @IOnceWasLegend

Could you provide a couple of examples? I cannot imagine a member would intentionally trade corals with ‘serious’ pests - which would not come off with a dip - but folks might have a different understanding of what serious is really.

The reason I am asking is that the main reason I have a separate tank for frags is that the real serious issues you can bring into your tank you might actually not be able to see - I am referring to various pathogen and/or velvet type issues.

I guess acro eating flatworms are an example.

I completely understand where you are coming from, but just a few points that I have been thinking about.

1. Not being able to participate might perhaps dissuade people from saying if they have a pest.

2. I got MEN from the swap, I have not see any of the 3 people that I got (monti) frags from come forward and say they have MEN, highly likely whoever I got MEN from will still participate.

3. At what point can someone declare themselves safe to participate again?

Also, about this point specifically, I truly believe we are in the thick of it now. 2 members (myself included) have got MEN from the last swap. Good chance there are others that dont know. @richiev has mentioned how they have got MEN from our swaps before.

I think this issue needs to be dealt with now if the objective is to protect the club

We definitely will make sure you guys can participate, even if we give frags for you both to get in. However I can't speak on the time frame of when a tank is deem safe.

I really appreciate that Michael.

And I really think that this is a big issue, and I feel like it should be dealt with, and in an ideal world, have MEN eliminated from our club. But I dont think people are realizing how far spread they already are spread in our club, and I feel like, many members dont know they have them.

When tribitt mentioned he got MEN, we reached out to each other to see if there was a common member that we both got montis from. We did not have a member in common that we both picked montis from, we picked from all different people
 
I am 100% confident I have gotten MEN from club members. One was at a meetup earlier in the year. One came from a freebie years ago (different tank I ended up tearing down). It's why I quarantine, I get stuff happens and I don't hold it against anyone. Especially since it was free, and unless proven otherwise I assume it was unknown. I've also once had a tank get disease from a well known online site that sells cleanup crews, and have gotten flukes from a LFS, and .... That class of issues bugs me more, but again, we all kinda know how that is how it goes (that's why I buy quarantined or QT myself all the things, including snails).

I am 100% not going to name names here.

My take, feel free to coordinate with folks who are interested, and as with others go ahead and DBTC with pre-coordinated setups where people know what they're getting. I wouldn't put them in a table with other misc stuff b/c it's too easy to go awry or have someone not fully informed about it grab it.

The practical realities is someone getting a piece, cutting to fresh tissue, and glue'ing to a fresh plug is probably lower risk than someone getting some other frag from the swap (or LFS) and putting it in without doing that. Similarly someone grabbing a sweet, brand new, frag from a LFS to bring in. However, worth making the expectation folks shouldn't bring known questionable things so that new folks don't start bringing unlabeled questionable stuff.
