Our mission

Arvin's 50g low boy frag tank

So I ended up tearing down a 20gal aio my friend gave me and transfered the contents into here. I also used his lights, aquaticlife halo m80 deluxe to supplement some blue. Pretty happy with the results. I custom made the safety wire to hang them up. Parts sourced from HomeDepot.

OOK 50lb hanging wire 9ft ($5)
22-16 AWG butt splice wire connectors ($4)
(I tried finding the proper safety wire ferrules, stops and loops but didn't have any luck so I settled with wire crimp connectors and cut off the colored sleeve, later to find out that they did have them in stock I just couldn't find them.

Still trying to get a par meter to check this tank and a few others of mine.

Plenty of live rock added to the sump for bio filtration. I added a Tupperware of sand for my leopard wrasse and he found his way into it for bed time the 2nd night. Other inhabitants are a springer damsel, yellow tail damsel, clown, bicolor blenny and a blue hippo tang.

Bottom of the racks definitely collect some poop/detritus. I have my power head pointed that way and if I turn it up to 100 it does a good job blowing it all out and suspending it into the water column to either go down the weirs into the filter sock or get siphoned out when I do water changes. If it gets too much of an issue then I'll get rid of the racks and go discs/tiles.

Checked Par.

Right under the Halo M80s it's at about 430 par. Just under 400 through majority of the middle of the tank under the led bar, 250-270 on the outskirts of the frag racks and just under 200 at tank bottom that is exposed in the front and back of tank. Is there any reason to go higher PAR than this for a frag tank?

No

Walked into AC today for some food (of course I end up walking out with way more...lol). My wife saw the mimic tang for $45 and told me to hurry and call someone over to get it. Lol. Don't know their going rate but this seemed like an awesome deal with their additional 20% off livestock for July 4th! Ended up getting refills on reagents, and my wife picked out a couple corals.

(Ignore the air bubbles, cleaned my skimmer and adjusted sump water level and still in the process of tuning up the skimmer as it was skimming way too wet since installing about a week ago)

I lost my leopard wrasse today :( I need to drill and install bulkheads for my returns so I can make a more secure lid. I currently have cutouts in my screen top for the over the top returns and it found the small gap and landed on the top of the screen while I was at work.

Did a 15 gal water change today and switched from my smart ato lite to a hydrofill controller and pump thanks to @under_water_ninja! Needed an ATO for my wife's biocube so I moved the smart ato lite to her tank.

Cleaned out my semi clogged skimmer. I need to get a mesh divider so I can avoid doing this as often. Pieces of chaeto get sucked in and screw up the skimmer performance and make it noisy.

parameters before water change
alk 12.1
po4 0.09
no3 2.5
I screwed up on my calc test and spilled some of the powder reagent and I didn't have enough of 1 part of the reagent to run another test. Messed up test came out to 399.

Aside from scrapping glass I haven't had to manually remove any algae from my racks or frags in about a month. CUC plus mimic tang are working hard!

my rtba split into 3 within the last few days. (Forgot to take a pic)
