While everything is technically "confined" here, anyone from anywhere can see it (other than what is hidden behind the membership pay-gate). It's worth noting that a lot of traffic comes from outside the Bay Area, which results in out-of-town guests rather than local signups and memberships. We see fairly significant traffic from people searching for specific information from across the globe. There is a wealth of knowledge nestled away in here!
Meanwhile we have 5-10 highly active "Bay Area Reef" groups on Facebook, with anywhere from 500-5000 members - and a surprisingly large percentage of those users have no idea BAR exists.
That said, a bit of promotion is necessary not just to sustain, but grow! Social media offers high visibility, particularly when utilizing localized targeting - and is basically free(ish) advertising when done right.
Don't worry, nobody here is going to plaster you, or your likeness across the internet - at least not without your express consent. Personally, I think you’d make a great 'face of the club' for the BAR welcoming committee!
