Call for 2025 BOD Nominations/Volunteers

This poor guy is done trying to run photography contests for troglodytes who lack the creative talent and finesse to really deliver on his vision.

Sorry we let you down Andy...lol
What?! Have you even looked at my photos? Pro level stuff right here.

Hi Everyone,

We are looking for volunteers for the 2025 Board of Directors. This is our 2024 board if you are unfamiliar. If you are interested in having a bigger impact in the club...we would love to have you join the BOD! No previous Board experience is required. Just a passion for BAR. Some activities/positions require a bit more time than others. If you are interested (or want to nominate another member), post here or reach out to me or another Board member. Note the at-large board positions vary from year to year.

The current positions as currently described in our by-laws are as follows:

President
Speak / network with neighboring clubs and sponsors
Think of long-term initiatives to help grow the club
Conduct 1:1s with other BOD members
Be a leader, one that other BOD members look up up, respect, and admire
Be responsible for the overall operation of the organization
Chair the monthly general membership meetings, and BOD meetings, and shall appoint all select committees, with or without assistance from the other Officers
Call special meetings of the organization, committee meetings, BOD meetings, and any other meetings, which may be deemed necessary, but not the monthly general membership meetings. Determine the location of such meetings. In case of any questions on demeanor while in office, the President shall be further governed by Robert's Rules of Order. Any tie among voting of the BOD shall be broken by the vote cast by the President

Vice President
Connect with people in the industry to help facilitate talks and/or activities for the club
Coordinate the logistics of bringing people for talks and/or activities
Conduct open calls for help for events
In the absence of the President, the Vice-President shall chair the monthly general membership meeting and the Board of Directors meeting. The Vice-President shall be the Program Coordinator for the quarterly general membership meeting of the organization.

Treasurer
Provide annual projections on income and expenses based on historical data
Look at ways to improve revenues and minimize expenses without inhibiting potential growth of the club
Keep the financial books of the organization, which shall include tracking all income and expenditures. The Treasurer shall provide a financial report within 2 weeks of a general meeting, and shall submit a budget for the coming year at the January Board of Directors meeting.
Pay any predetermined amounts as may have been authorized by the Board, and all bills presented to, and approved by majority vote at a Board of Directors meeting. The Treasurer shall prepare and submit all reports required by any governmental agency.

Sponsorship / Public Relations
Establish new and maintain current relationships with both national and local sponsors
Facilitate the acquisition of donations for events and contests
Present sponsorship applicants to the BOD
Debrief new potential sponsors on our sponsorship application process

Secretary
Schedule and record minutes of meetings
Provide daily content to drive memberships and site traffic
Maintain the clubs corporate documentation records
Prepare and distribute agendas prior to BOD meetings

Webmaster
Website administration of spam and members
Feature / add-on implementation
Assist BOD and other members with specific requests

Facilities / Event Coordinator
Secure facilities for events and meetings
Coordinate the logistics of event locations
Coordinate with the Vice President and Sponsorship / Public Relations in executing events

Officers at Large (up to 4)
The Officers at Large shall work with the Officers in developing long-term goals and administering the programs and activities of the organization.

We have the following "Officers at Large" positions currently:

TBD, officer at large

Frag Swap Coordinator, officer at large

Coordinate the logistics of Frag Swaps

Photography/Contests, officer at large
Act as club event photographer, run BAR contests
Run contests that are backed by our sponsors to gain viewership and to better promote our sponsors

Thanks
Nick

I could be available for:
Officers at Large
I can be helping the forum and Frag Swaps. Also helping with events and maybe ideas. Also I think maybe we could have the tank tour. If you guys want around SF. We did not had that in quite some time.
Also I could potentially hold the equipment. I am in San Francisco and I work from home. Sometimes I go in some trips but If I have equipment I'll make sure another person in SF will hold the equipment.

Tank tour would be fun! My wife did similar with the Lafayette Juniors, each month someone hosted a get-together at their place, where they worked on fundraising and donations for kids and women's groups, drank wine, judged each other’s kitchen, but actually did/do productive things for the community and surrounding areas.

It would be fun to do something similar, but reef focused on ethical husbandry, protection of natural resources, etc…

Ok and just so you guys know, I’m not *THAT* terrible. Spent spring (their fall) last year on a photo safari in South Africa, this guy was so close my wife ducked down and hid in the truck, luckily he’d just eaten, also had a nasty wound around his neck from being caught in a poachers snare.

Wow, man if you get bored, would love to see more photos from south Africa. I think there is a place in the forum for non reefing stuff. I don't have anything that cool with lions, we only saw one that was sleeping on a hill. I went to kenya a few months back. I could share some pictures as well.

As a sponsor, that job is off limits. I had to resign from the BOD when I was working for Reef Nutrition. The IRS doesn't like it, it jeopardizes the NPO status.

What ever the current board wants to do with this is up to them. 10 years ago is a pretty decent length, who knows, maybe the regs have changed.. FWIW, that was across the board at the time, not just that position. I was an officer at large.
A few weeks I was reading through old bod forums and I remember reading that thread.
