Check valves on return

I'm going to plumb check valves into my return, not because I need them to prevent a flood but just to keep the level constant when I shut off the return to feed and less disturbance when I turn them back on.

Are the wye ones from brs better than the flapper/swing ones? Both seem like you can tear them out pretty easily if need be.

We also didn't have 3000gph DC pumps with feed modes many moons ago. I never used them either because I know they fail. But as a nice to have they make sense to me now.

A check valve will probably be more of a headache than a siphon break, or even hooking a DC pump to a controller for fine tuning a “feed mode” (such as VDM module on Apex).

I picked up some small mesh bags from Neptune's that have a Velcro closure. When I turn off the flow to feed, I secure them around the outlet nozzles on the return. When I turn the flow back on...it catches any detritus from the sump and disperses the flow...then remove them after about 15 minutes
