Cleaning filter socks - How do you do it?

I clean mine with the garden hose on high presure steam, works great.
I do exactly the same thing it gets most everything then (I do about 6 at time) I put them in a 5 gal salt bucket with a cup of bleach and the lid on overnight (no smell and the bleach stays strong). The run the hose in the bucket to rinse out a few times...
Let em dry and bingo! like new :bigsmile:

Does bleach actually break down or remove the particulate matter caught in the socks, or just make the socks look new and white?

Bleach is a strong oxidizer and breaks down organic stuff very well. Then the stuff can wash out easily. It will turn stuff white or colorless also. Google it.

I get mine from a site online which I will post when I remember it. But I pay only 1.50 per filter sock 100 micron. they sell different kinds of materials and sizes. I usually buy 30 at a time considering I use 5 filter socks at a time. 4 for the returns and 1 for the skimmer return. i usually get the garden hose with a spicket on it and clean both inside and outside of them first then run them through the washer when my moms not looking. she would probably kick me out if she only knew. pops knows and he just laughs about it. like he does with all my fish stuff. he loves it. she hates it.

found it!
Filterbag.com
2.05 per bag. beat that. good luck. i've tried. the model I use is the pong 100P4P
it's a polypropylene felt (micron rated non-woven) material. it works just fine. sorry to all the fish stores and online thieves out there. wait a minute. no I am not. charging 8 to 10 dollars a bag. thats just crazy talk. they also have different types of materials if you like

Jaime I could use some of the same model you use.
Anyone interested in a group buy? The minimum quantity to order is 25, I do not need that many.
let me know

unfortunatly I'm pretty stocked at the moment. I just figured I would put it out there so people could save some money where they can. times are tough and we can't give up our hobbies because of that. You just have to work around it. Sorry Gus maybe you could put up something on the group buy forums.

I like to boil them in some water and make a broth, and then add rice and vegies for a reef stew.............

J/K

I throw them in with my tank towels and wash like normal.
