Co2 scrubber overated?

Just retested pH: lights OFF, skimmer ON, bubbler ON (Bubbler is rarely on, I use it to break up surface scum)

pH sits just below 8.0 according to the API test.

Figure 2 here should show you that with that alk and pH your CO2 can't be horrible (you're at 2.96 meq/L). https://reefs.com/magazine/chemistry-and-the-aquarium-the-relationship-between-alkalinity-and-ph/

The kit probably isn't too far off.

My worry is that my pH is actually bad, and my test kit is inaccurate. But thanks for the link!

You can confirm once you get the sensor from Eric, but honestly, the best skill to learn in reefkeeping is that if your tank looks great and nothing is dying, you probably don't need to snap correct based on a test reading. And your tank looks great, so I wouldn't worry too much.

My SPS isn’t growing as fast as when I used Kalkwasser (I now use 2 part with baking soda, not soda ash nor lye) - I suspect (but can’t prove) that the higher pH was benefiting the corals enough to boost growth.
