Computer virus help

i had the same issue. turned my tB drive into dynamic. nothin could be done but a format. i reinstalled another windows on another drive pulled off all my docs and important stuff. then formatted my boot drive with my tB (freshly dyanmic drive) and had to move those files onto other hds, formatted both, and starting over. you cant ctrl-alt-del either. i tried to eliminate processes and went into the registry, no luck. the whole is wiped. and it wouldnt let me go to safemode. nothing worked. and ive been a computer technician for a few companies. that virus is all bad. on the fresh install i went ahead and installed symantec corp edition and then tried to install this virus again, and it caught it. last time i didnt have it installed prior to accidentally installing this virus. unfortunately, odds are you are going to have to reinstall with fresh format (i did a full to prevent it from being recovered accidentally). good luck. i can tell you how to retrieve your files from a new boot device, but all your program files will be lost and need to start fresh

the problem with this virus if you install antivirus after its installed, it wont be found, at least in my experience. i also tried panda active-scan online, and everytime it would scan the file, it froze the comp. blue-screen in a heartbeat.

95% of the time you can kill those worms/viruses by using Malwarebytes.org, the tip that most people don't do is to run the scan and removal in SAFE MODE, this will allow Malwarebytes to clean your System Reg files permanently, otherwise the worm/virus will probably pop its head back up.

My wife just got rid of a virus that made itself seem like it was an antivirus software popping up to tell you there was a virus on your computer. Think the program name that kept coming up was Spyware Protect 2009.

BTW it wasn't removed by a virus program she had to go through other steps including editing the registry to get rid of it.

FYI
If you do it in SAFE MODE you don't have to do any of it manually! Manually is always risky too, because sometimes they are files you need, but they are just "edited' by the malware, good software will know that it should look like and restore the reg.

Good thing it's the Spyware_protect_2009. If you got the Antivirus 2009, good luck removing it. If you see that Antivirus 2009 window pop up, best thing is to do Alt+F4 to close the window. If you click anywhere in that window, it will install the damn virus. Just do Alt+F4 until you close that window and don't go to the website again.

Hey guys, man it's been a busy week.

How do I get to safe mode? I tried hitting F8 during the boot screen, but no go. Any other way I can get there? I want to try Malwarebytes.org.

Thanks,
Mike

press(tap) F8 as fast as you can over and over from the moment your computer turns on or reboots, sometimes it ca be a little tricky. If that doesn't work try it again but hold it down.

Are you using XP or Vista?

if F8 still won't work try:

Run->msconfig->Boot.INI->tab->select for safeboot->restart

reverse this to after to get back to normal boot up.

Montana, one more question for you.

When I choose /safeboot, it gives me 4 choices: minimal, network, drepair, and advanced. Which one do I choose. I'm on minimal right now, and it does not allow me to access the internet.

min is the best, just make sure you update Malwarebytes when you are in regular Windows, because if you try to do it in safeboot w/o networking it can't connect to update.

Cheers,

Josh

yeah, install it in regular windows, then open it for the first time and click update, let it update. Then reboot into safemode and run it.

Cheers,

Josh
