I remember Rich giving my family a private tour of the back of Steinharts (because I donated a very large spa to the aquarium) and one thing I noticed was huge ton bags of IO in the basement. So hey, if IO is good enough for them, it’s good enough for me.

It is not hard to mix it differently.
The problem is false advertising.
For some reason, I expect a 50 gallon "Reef salt" to be at least close to 50G at typical reef levels.

There's you're problem your expectations are not necessarily what they're selling. IIRC instant ocean even states instructions for a sG of 1.022 so yeah not "typical reef"

It's definitely deceptive advertising but doesn't qualify for false advertising.
No difference from coral vendors tweaking white balance on coral pictures.

I'd have to watch the BRS video again but I think the only one that specifically listed the volume based on 35ppt mixing was Brightwell Aquatics

Aquavitro salinty claimed 220 or 225 for big bucket, and that’s what it actually was.
