DBTC OR NOT?

i have aquired a few sps corals that i've kept on my frag racks and they are doing well......question is this , if i no longer have an interest in keeping them because i either changed my mind or just have too many similar corals (i can only have so many duplicates) for example millies, green unknown sps, some blue unkown acros, can these be put into dbtc? i already have a crapload going into the swap but i wanted to see if experienced bar members would care to grow them out. what do you think?

Tough call really. The whole point of DBTC is to propagate corals and keep them out there so that less needs to be taken from the oceans. However that doesn't mean that you yourself need to keep them. So putting into the DBTC wouldn't be a bad thing, you'll get 1 or 2 corals out and assuming they don't die they'll work their way around the club. However the other side of that is if you put them into the swap then that's a chance someone will take those corals rather than a coral that you want at the swap :D

kinda have the same feeling , i would hope that in the dbtc program ....someone responsible would take the task of growing them out and propagating ........i will post some pics later on tonight and see what kind of responces i receive. the only down side of course is that no one would want them in dbtc and then i suppose i would put them into the swap (i really hate to have someone take at swap and let it go to waste).....or not. :(

SWS. I had a bit more time with the planning but this is what I did since I was in a similar situation. I started a DBTC thread on all those types of corals. Whatever wasn't taken, I will be putting into the swap and extending into the NCNR-DBTC.

actually, you do have time if you want to go that route. Start up some DBTC threads (pics really help) with a requirement: must pick up at frag swap. Take everything with you to the swap. Whatever isn't claimed goes into the swap lol.

As long as it isn't a million xenia or more then a few of a single species, I can't imagine there being a major issue. As a newbie at the last swap, I graciously picked up some of the "leftover".

...And as a DBTC whore, who's only current reef tank is a pure DBTC prorogation tank (ya, laugh all you want lol), I'll probably toss my name into a hand full of your threads knowing you want them grown out :-D

Well there ya go, take photos, open up a bunch of DBTC, and specifically mention "If they are not claimed by swaptime they go into the swap" :)

hey , thats a good idea, at least i will give the dbtc program a priority and whats not claimed by friday night will be put into the frag swamp ;D

thanks for all your input guys

.... well you could start 1 thread for all of them, name them what ever you were told and see what happens. you could then start a thread for what ever you have takers for?.... or heck just put it all in the swap i don't care anymore, it's monday and I'm already stressed from work..... breath Levi ......

[/quote]This is what I usually do, this time I have to take a breather (breathe Levi breathe) due to a nasty critter I pulled off an Acro. a little over a month ago. That's why my usual Amazon river of coral has not been flowing lately.

AFA starting threads for each one, it's a good idea just to keep things from getting confused down the line, remember many of these corals go to second generation and you want to make it easy for people to find them in order to post available frags. Also, you don't necessarily need pics, I never use them b/c my camera is the worst camera ever, it doesn't affect my ability to give coral away.

AMEN brother! Pics arnt required, but they do help. Most of us here have pretty good imaginations..haha

Very cool. DBTC threads for each type, and unclaimed ones to the swap.

Eventually, the DBTC ones will have been propped and passed around enough that they'll end up in future swaps.

Good way for the 2 activities to complement each other.

:D
