Looking to start another Battle Corals group buy and would like to gauge interest. If you are interested in participating, please respond in this thread.

One format option for the group buy would be to mimic the 2020 version, where participants selected their own frags and received discounted prices.

Another option would be to use club funds to subsidize the group buy with participants being required to contribute a number of frags into DBTC. Obviously there would need to be some rules in place to prevent participants from joining and then ghosting (perhaps member will need to pay fully for the for frag and then be reimbursed a certain amount once they pass a frag into DBTC).

Those are just two options but welcome other thoughts/variations.

It would also be great to see some of the older DBTC revived as well. I know I for one was bummed to see the Tyree elegance DBTC halted.

I don’t think it’s appropriate to use club funds to purchase coral for members.

To many varriants with this option frag dies, member disappears. I would say different if it was for a grown out contest. Yet I agree with you as far as for dbtc is concerned. If the club itself had a dedicated grow out tank it would possibly work. Hard to see it going well with club funds otherwise.

What we did last time was pay for our own coral with the idea that there would be a DBTC-specific swap with those coral after they had grown a bit. Everyone had good intentions. It didn’t work out.

What I’d really like to see is people just participating correctly in the many DBTC chains we already have out there. The percentage of time that someone receives a DBTC coral, grows it, and gives out 2 or more frags to other members is in the single digits. Too many people see it as the originator giving out frags and that’s it. Or maybe as the originator giving out frags as a frag bank for himself in case he loses his, and that it. It’s not supposed to be either. It’s supposed to be an exponential thing that shares frags over multiple generations throughout the club.

I know as well as anyone that stuff dies sometimes before you can share it, it’s happened to me. But when I get a DBTC it’s always in the back of my mind that I need to share at least a couple frags ASAP once I get it growing. I’d love it if that mindset was more common.

Like @JVU said the number of people who actually put back frags is pretty low. If you look in barcode you can actually the dbtc stats.

It's kinda neat to look through. 3 of the top 10 contributers and 2 of the top 10 of people who have put back frags into it aren't even members anymore. It's sad to say but most people just use dbtc for "free" coral.

Completely agree, cant wait for my DBTCs to grow out more so that I can share them! The brittle stars that you shared with me should be super easy to pass on, hopefully I start seeing some crawl out from under the rock they initially went under lol.

Also, I havent been added to the spicy favia DBTC that I got at the swap, I think it came from @Turkeysammich but I didnt see will in the lemon spicy favia chain, so I’m not sure if its a different chain?

When Pablo @svreef made BARCode, he and I talked about showing people with the most chains completed (received a coral in DBTC, and gave back 2 or more) or chains with the most completions (which would be organized by the coral rather than the user) and including those in the top 10. The reason we didn’t was that the number was shockingly low, much lower than the above numbers. Maybe we should show it though, because that is one of the primary (if not the primary) goals.

I agree we should show this stat. The reward is people with completed chains could have higher priority to the nicer frags. I would put them at the top of my list on anything I give out.

I’ll add you. Everyone wrote in the book with that marker. I couldn’t read people’s hand writing.
