Thanks for the spotlight this month, and the many pearls of wisdom and humor I’ve enjoyed since becoming a BAR member two years ago.
Tank: 90g Red Sea Reefer 450, 60”Lx20”Wx22”H. Setup April 2018.
Lights: Two Kessil AP700 and two 48” T5 bulbs.
Filtration: Pukani rock, chaeto and a Skimz skimmer.
Clean-up crew:
-Trochus snails - about ten total. Not counting the zillion baby trochus snails.
-Emerald crabs: great for eating leftover fish food and algae in cracks that snails can’t reach. Also spawns frequently, which provides really great food for everything in the reef. Fear of a million baby crabs running all over my reef is one of the reasons why I use filter socks.
-One really big sea cucumber - this hitch-hiked in and I’m starting to worry it’s a ticking time bomb. I mean how long can they live? Without finding their way into an impeller? But the curious part of me has left it alone for 4 years...
-Scarlett leg and blue leg hermits (4 total) - because my husband likes them.
-Red tuxedo urchin.
-Lots of asterina starfish (as you can see), lots of nice tiny brittle stars, encrusting sponges, and a few bristle worms.
Fish:
yellow tang
2 oscillaris
six-line wrasse
firefish
6 chromises
