I want to setup reef pi or something similar on my pi to monitor salinity, temp, and ORP at very minimum

As someone with two reef pis, the UI sucks, and unless you're a hardware & software nerd, it's not really a good solution. If you're both of those, it has some interesting characteristics.

It's just a web UI though, so you can use any device/tablet to connect to it. An old phone is a good option.

For the things you listed though, it can do those, but requires some hardware work. UI still sucks though :)

Also be aware salinity probes and the circuits are pretty expensive, if I remember correctly over $100. pH probes are like $50. To connect them to a pi you need a custom circuit. The robotank site has the circuit for around $35, but you might need 1 for each of orp/salinity/pH.

Based on my experience, if I was starting over and not looking to diy a bunch, I'd try an old phone and a lower model hydros or apex.

Grafana is a great piece of software to display info collected from an apex or ReefPi sensors.

Not compatible with older (32bit) ipads though.
