Does anyone here not use filter socks?

Does anyone here have a sump, and not use filter socks? I am considering not using them anymore, as changing it 2-3x a week is becoming a little cumbersome. I notice crap does get stuck in the sock while in use, but I also notice a yellow to brown colored tint/stain to the sock (comes off after a nice bleaching). I guess this could be particulate matter, but not all of it can be. I am thinking the yellow/brown stain is the surface slick that is constantly sucked down the overflow box. I figure instead of letting my sock catch the slick and hold onto it, I could just remove the sock, and let my skimmer skim out the nasties. But having no filter sock may cause from minor bubble problems.
I don't mind siphoning a little garbage off the bottom of my sump once every couple weeks. My tank is pretty clean as I have a light fish load, I don't feed often, and I am running bare bottom. Between those things, and weekly water changes of 10%, things stay pretty spiffy.
SO -I was curious if anyone here doesn't use filter socks?

I used to but don't anymore. The tank stayed cleaner with the sock but mostly only noticeable following water changes, when the main circulation pump is shut off and a lot of the crap settled out in the sump was stirred up by changes in water flow. But, the skimmer gets it in an hour or so tops.

I do not use filter socks. Even the ones on TR6 at work are of a very large micron size and are used only to stop bubbles in the sump. :D

I am going to need to find some of those higher micron socks for my own use in my sump. I need to find those socks with those two plastic bendy arch things in on the inside of the sock. Anyone have any leads? I am going to try to run sock-less :) I had no idea this many people ran their tanks without filter socks!

Yeah, I need those two arches in the middle. If a sock has those, and a higher micron rating, that'd be great.
Arches like those found on the inside of this sock:

Those are Blue Life brand IIRC, Chris carries them.

Chris does carry them, and that's where I got them, but those are 200 microns. If there is something with a higher micron rating (~500 microns I guess?) I will need to use those if bubbles are a problem. Is there anyway to solve the bubble issue without using a filter sock, or baffles?

I've never seen anything coarser than 200 microns, good luck on that one.

On a side note, I just started a tank move today that that has a sump with a skimmer and no baffles or socks, just a 40 gallon long glass aquarium, I've never had micro bubbles in that tank in 3 years. Not to mention several other tanks that I've run like that, you may not have any problems..
