Dosing question

Hello everyone,

I'm really new to this and I just got a doser, I finally did some testing and realized my ALK was a bit low at 5.9, I am trying to maintain the tank via the balling light method and using its calculator I figured I needed about 314.9ml of my ALK solution to get to where I needed to be. My question is should I spread out this dose throughout the night or can I give it in one big shot? My thinking is I don't want to shock my system and I should do it gradually in small doses. My question is if I do spread out the dose, how spread out should it be? Thanks again, I am excited to get my reef up to tip top shape!

5.9 is not a big deal, I wouldn’t even try to do a “correction.”

Just figure out what your daily dose of alk should be and add a little to that until it gets to where you want it.

The sodium bicarb they are using can be dosed in a BOLUS/all in dose without an issue. I have been dosing daily 330 ml in a 30 minutes window for months without an issue. And my tank is at a least 25-30% smaller than yours. Also, balling light alk is diluted in a 1:10 ratio Alk:RODI so it sounds more than it is. Still, split it over 2-3 days for now and make sure you measure your daily consumption more accurately to not let it drop that much.

Spread it out. Get to like 7.5 or 8.5 when you can. Take a week. No worries

Kind of restating what was already said above, but alk is NOT one of the parameters you just correct with a single dose and then it’s done. It is constantly used and replenished all day and night, and more than any other additive. And the higher the value (within physiologic range), the faster it gets consumed. You want to just increase your daily dosing and keep testing until your dosing regimen is giving you the stable steady-state alk range you are looking for.
