EGGS! :D

I was looking at my 14g when something caught my eye. There was a huge bunch of red eggs attached under one of my my pom pom crab's stomach! I never thought my crabs would lay eggs so I'm very surprised. I have 3 other pom pom crabs in the 14g with the one that has eggs. What am I supposed to do?

You don't need to do anything. The mother crab will take care of them until they are ready to hatch and be released. The larvae are probably planktonic in nature and it will be next to impossible to raise them. They will make a tasty treat for your other tank inhabitants though. :)

The larvae will be released all together one night. You may or may not get to see this event. I don't know the length of incubation, so you will definitely want to keep feeding your tank everyday. Just think of it as a bonus feeding. :)

At least you can see your pom pom crabs  I put a pair in my tank over a year a go and they only comes out for me to see them about once every 3-4 months! ... if that. :| When I got them, only one of them had an anenome and it was only one very small one. Now they both have one in each claw. Last time I saw them their anenomes were huge!

I see all of my pom pom crabs almost every day since I have a small tank. Two of mine had anemones that disappeared after a few days. Now they take small clippings of my frogspawn which dies within a few days.

Be happy that all the corals and other animals in your tank will get a nice health phytoplankton feast when those eggs hatch.

Seriously.

:D YAY! I hope this means I don't have to dose phytoplankton for a week or two!

So when eggs hatch, they turn into single cell algae? News to me :p

My cleaner shrimp would have a hatch go off about once a month.
The fish would all of the sudden go CRAZY zipping about the tank to get the almost invisible food.
