Eroded and Brittle Torch Coral Base

Coral Reefer (Mike) was over the other day and noticed my torch coral was eroding at the base beneath the tissues. This is below the living part of the coral. I had not noticed this, but upon further inspection it was clear that the stalks on the side facing my RapidLED PAR30 bulb (80 degree lenses) were eroded, but the sides in the shadow were unharmed. I have moved the bulb further away.

I was surprised that the stalk had become eroded and brittle. The most logical explanation seems to be that the light from the bulb was causing this. Is high intensity light known to make LPS coral bases brittle? Or this something new perhaps do to the particular wavelengths in this type of LED lighting?

My water chemistry seems fine:
Salinity 1.025 (Hanna Digital)
pH 8.3 (Elos)
Alk 8 (API)
Ca 420ppm (API)
NO3 0.0 (API)
PO4 0.14 (Hanna Checker)
Mg (need to check, but was 1320 2 months ago)
