Edward, I had a couple of the earlier models of these running the Finnex titanium elements and while they were good for awhile, they both expired within about a year. The problem seemed to be the internal electronics that got fried. I replaced one of them with an Aqua Medic unit but that lasted just about as long before it's internal controller went wacky and started setting the tank temp way higher than desired (fortunately a second failsafe controller prevented a disaster).
Given the above experience, I'd recommend either one of the simpler models of reef controllers or a beefy Ranco style controller. Both have serviced me well over the years without any hiccups whatsoever. If you're be interested in the Ranco style unit, I believe I still have an extra single stage one from a posting awhile back for which the sale fell through. I'll have to check but I think it may be an Aquanetics or AquaLogic unit like the ones at their site www.aquanetics.com ... LMK.
