if you're that far into catching him. it only takes one more step to catch him for sure.
Drain the water into a big enough storage/trash can, drain it all the way till about 1"'off the floor,
the fish will have NO room to swim & just be laying on the bottom. Reach in and grab the booger, smack him around a few times, and refill the tank.
All that can be done in the same amount of time it takes to change your water. with guaranteed results.
