I have some frags cut for the swap and would like to mount them soon. Anyone know where I could purchase some plugs? I'm on the coast (HMB) so the closer the better.
I have some I can sell, but I'd rather do it thru a store like Atlantis, Dolphin, Exotic Reefs (and Mermaid in the future). I'm a distributer for www.coralcradle.com
When you say volume, how much are you talking? The real discounts start up around 10K units, but there's price brakes down to 25. I'm not sure if I'm going to package them in 25 lots, or 50 lots yet, so I'm holding off suggesting a MSRP until then For me, it's not about the money. I figured out what it would take to cover my costs, and return on my investment, and based my pricing to dealers on that. Honestly, I don't want to sell these retail, but rather wholesale to stores and farms. I've got around 700 left right now, so I'll talk to some locals like Eddie, Tyler, Ming Wei and Max
Yes it plastic. Poly Chlorinated Vinyl aka PVC. White for now (I prefer white) and maybe blue in the near future. That's for the Coral Cradles (tm). I'll also have some that I'm producing that will be in acrylic, clear or white. They look great in frag tanks, which is what they're designed for. I don't mount plugs in my display, so to me, it's a moot point, nor can I comment, sorry. I remove all plugs, natural or not, before mounting in my tank. I sometimes mount to a small piece of rubble, or old coral skeleton for easy removal in the future (for fragging colonies, or dipping). I''ve always done that on a minor scale, but after seeing how it's helped Rich, I do it for all display colonies now
wow Gresham those plugs do look neat, if I had the (at this point.. we'll call it desire ), to have a frag prop tank I definately would consider those. It seems that they sit on on the middle of 4 squares in the egg crate (just judging by the picture) do they have slots to accomidate? Or are they flat bottomed? Also how does coral encrusting on those compare to something like agrocrete plugs or even live rock for that matter!
They made to fit into normal eggcrate, if that's what your asking.
They sink

Do they just snap in into the eggcrate? Same question as sfsuphysics - when they, if they do, encrust to the plugs - can I take the plug and glue the plug to the LR's in my display tank?
Or is it better to snap them off the plug and glue the coral to the LR?
They fit in the EC square, or on the grid itself. You have two options there to help maximize your space. Almost all corals will encrust on them, so no worries there As far as glueing the plug to your LR, that's purely up to you, it can be done. You can also snap the coral off the plug, or snap the base off the plug. It's all up to the end user really.
Getting corals from our friends can be safe, but let me suggest that all mariculture bases should be broken off newly purchased corals and discarded. These are well known to be the vectors for some of the more annoying pests in our hobby.
