How long do these need to be cured

N 400 only takes about 24 hrs to fully harden. Doesn't need to be soaked in freshwater to "cure" like Portland cement does. It's safe to go in tank.

You said concrete so i assumed regular concrete not n400

That being said, if I do keep making these, I will switch to white or Portland cement and soak it in rodi for a few weeks. N400 is about $50 a bag and is a pain in the ass to get (I went through my buddies business). Portland cement is only about $8 for the same amount and is a lot easier to work with for this purpose.

I did say concrete, which N400 is not. My mistake.

Its just a thick cement powder that can cure underwater and doesn't have any toxins.

Right so do you cure the concrete in fresh water for a couple days or just directly into your tank

Portland cement and white cement need to be soaked in freshwater or it will affect ph in a reef tank.

N 400 doesn't need to soak, it's fine to go straight in. It's commonly used for aquascaping rocks together.

Yeah, that's the problem. Cement is a vague product term. All 3 are cement.

N 400 is just one of a bunch of specialty formula cements that MasterEmaco makes.

Did you try adding some agronite sand to the n400 maybe to bring the cost per plug down

I do use different kinds depending on use. Fine grain for frag plugs and coarse sand for discs/tiles.

The fine sand doesn't really affect strength at all. The coarse sand actually increases strength of the material, it's not just a filler.

So far my favorite 3” discs for purchase has been this one from Ray’s Reef on eBay:

I bought a 60 pack and they arrived all undamaged. I’ve purchased ceramic ones before and had quite a few break.

As far as stem diameter, i actually purchased silicone o-rings to put on the stem for larger racks holes where they might fly out from the flow.

I got my delivery of $150 worth of silicone. Messed up the first two molds I poured (didn't think the positive mold 3d print was going to float in the material).

Im not happy with the round frag plug mold but I did a set of castings anyhow just to see. The model mold did the same thing but my intervention did more harm than good.
