Glass tanks

Hi there.

Having a bit of a meltdown tonight. I have been working with a sales rep from a Texas based fish store to buy an AGE aquarium. Things have been going great, I have discussed all the options, stands, overflows, starfire glass, etc. I sent an itemized list back to him today to confirm I have all the numbers right......sort of the final email before putting my 50% down.

Got an email back tonight relating he made a little mistake on the quote.............A $2000 dollar mistake!!! I was previously very excited that they were reasonably priced. Still more expensive than everyone else I had gotten quotes from, however not as bad as I thought. Well apparently they ARE as bad as I thought. The original quote was MAXING me out on this tank. Now I'm back to the drawing board.

Anyone have any suggestions of where to get a decent glass tank?? I have a quote from Miricles Aquarium in Canada. They have pretty good reviews on the forums and are still in my price range. They are currently the top runner. I know about Glass cages, however they do NOT get very good reviews..... although they are very cheap compared to everyone else.

I'm gonna be back to shopping around and contacting some LFS to find out who they use and get some more quotes. Just can't believe after weeks of working with this guy that he did this. He said that apparently the "price of glass is fluctuating." REALLY? It fluctuated $2000 dollars? |( I was REALLY excited to get an AGE tank. Super bummed.

There's Keith Grandt in Sacramento. I've never seen one of his tanks in person, but people seem to really like the work he does.

Thanks for the info.

I got a quote from the guy in Sacramento. He actually delivers the tank and puts it on your stand and everything. However his quote was VERY high. Or so I thought. Now it's looking a bit more in the ballpark. :( Just not my ballpark. I will call neptune and get a quote from LeeMar. Worth a shot.

@ Levi, I don't know if Kritter does glass, however I may end up doing Acrylic after all. I love many aspects of acrylic, however I had one acrylic tank and it was SO difficult to keep clean without scratching. I really don't want to add that to a tank that is already going to be a lot of work. But Acrylic is much lighter, stronger.........and clearer than many glass tanks. I'm not sure if it's clearer than Starfire. Never had a starfire tank before. So thanks for the heads up that they do good work. I will keep it in mind.

Hey Jess,

Thanks for the tip on LeeMarr. I don't have a quote yet, however went to Neptunes website and ended up looking at their 400G show tank build. That was a LeeMar tank and WHAT A BEAUTY! I would be very happy with a tank like that. Hopefully they are a little more affordable. I may just have to wait until next year if not..........which would be a bummer.

Thanks.

Stay away from Mitch at Bow Valley in Canada. Great tanks, decent prices, but that guys is a nut bag and you wont be able to deal with his personality
