Hair Algae and Recommended Siphon Tools

My 150 gallon tank is developing hair algae. Like to try more often water change and manual siphon of the substrate to remove excess dirt build up.

What siphon tools or equipment set up do you recommend?

Do I throw away any sand siphoned out?

I use this and it work well. Threw away sand it siphon.. also great for cyano

I grab by hand what I could and then turn the turbo snails loose
