Help me get rid of bryopsis. It's out of control!!!

I had a tiny bushel of that on my skimmer return and my blue tang ate it but it won't eat anything green that I pay for :)

i had a chocolate mimic that ate it like no tomorrow....none of my others touched the stuff though. Im not sure if all of them eat it or if i just lucked out

Dose kalkwasser and bring your pH to 8.5-8.6 and your alk to 3.8+, the bryopsis will melt.

Other people have had success using Tech M to bring Mg to 1500-1600ppm.

If you do either of those methods, make sure you don't overflow your skimmer when the bryopsis melts.

OK Norm, my tank is also hair-ed out. I haven't run my kalk reactor in months, but today, I'm going to set it up again and not change anything else...let's see what happens.

Cool.

If steady slow dosing to raise your alk and pH don't melt the bryopsis, you may need to spike the levels a bit.

If you spike to the point of tank wide snowstorm, your bryopsis definately will go away. But you don't need to go to that extreme.

A little abiotic precipitation is ok though, if you're feeling brave :D

I went with tuberiders' suggestion of a foxface and that guy wiped out all of mine (in a 180) in a matter of 2-3 weeks. If I can trap him, he's yours.

I've had/have foxface and magnificent foxface. Mine would sort of pick at the bryopsis, but they never got rid of it for me.

x2 on what Norm said about raising the Mg - take it above 1500 and you should see the bryopsis go away. Safer IME than trying to manage/control an alk swing.

It seems you have to dose with Kent's Tech M. Other Mg seem not to work. The theory is its the sulphate.
I did Tech M with little downside. :D

If it is the sulfates, then dose Epsom Salts for Mg :)

No way to test for sulphates and we have no idea what level they would need to be at and we don't really know if it is sulphate. :D

*blows whistle* FOUL! Posting while on vacation, 15 yard penalty! Unless you're back, then welcome back :D

I love the foxface, had one that would eat anything green (except corals) any sort of algae except what grows right next to the surface would be decimated, I mean you could literally stick in a nasty algae covered rock into the tank and within a few days the rock would be clean to the surface. Another one I had, meh don't think he cared to live up to the hype. So biological means are usually hit or miss.
