Help me silence my drain

I need ideas on how to silence my drain for my 100 gallon. I have 1 overflow that has a 1.25 durso and a 1" drain. The overflow is quiet but the water going into the sump is making to much noise. I've tried adding another durso at the end of the 1" into the sump and it did a little bit to eliminate the noise but I need something more silent. Any ideas or pics is greatly appreciated. This is the only thing stopping me from setting up my tank this weekend.

Has anyone tried this and know if it works?

Forgot to add that I have an Eheim 1260 w/ 1" returns. I don't want to cut down the throttle in order for there to be silence. I'd like to have full flow through my tank. Once again, thanks!
 
I would place a hose with holes in it in the overflow and surround it with Filter Media.

I basically fill up my overflow with this stuff:

please elaborate. hose w/ holes in the overflow surrounded by media? maybe this would help me w/ the same problem...

i use the t method described above right now and it does help w/ the sound vibrating up the pipe. problem for me is the sound coming out of the overflow at the display
 
I built something similar to the sump Durso T - though I didn't think of making it flow into a larger pipe after the elbow.

It is silent for my set up with minimal microbubbles, but I only have minimal flow through it on the order of 100 gph coming down a 3/4" PVC tube into the sump.

You are welcome to take a look at my setup - and if you do decide to use this method, I have some slight modifications I would make to mine if I were to do it again.
 
Did you turn down the flow to 100 gph? If I turn down my flow it gets quiet but not enough water gets into the return pump. Also, I'd like to have it go at full capacity. :)

Any pics or is it just a elbow into a T durso style setup?
 
Can someone verify if this is true? Because I am doing a dry run with tap water right now. Also will adding some LR in my sump cut down on the noise?

You cannot see the inside, but what this is basically a 1" hose (or whatever size) fits in your bulk head. Which has holes you drill or pre drilled (some pre filters come this way) If you want one I have a few I can give you at the next meeting.

This will quiet the noise coming from the drain into the sump? My overflow doesn't have much sound with the durso pipe. It's the drain where a lot of my noise is coming from.

A filter sock is a super easy solution employed by a vast number of aquarists in both fresh and saltwater.
 
I'm going at full capacity for my system, which is pretty low - a Maxijet 1200 pumping up 5ft of head and draining via two 3/4" PVC hoses.

Mine is an elbow into a T-durso with PVC pipe going up above the water line with a cap with a hole, and then a PVC pipe going down to near the bottom of the tank with a few slits cut out to let more water out.

It was a little more microbubbles at the start, and then much fewer after it slimed up. I recall that it has generally been pretty quiet from the beginning.

I did buy a filter sock, but it was too big and would have been too much of a pain to take out and wash on a regular basis.
 
Ah, didn't wanna put a sock on my sump because I wasn't fond of cleaning it all the time.

arthrlo are you using 3/4" pipe also for your elbow and T?

I've seen beananimals overflow. I barely had enough room for my durso. I had to create my durso with flexpvc because it's so small.
 
And the Filter Sock I use in the sump... I was referring to the noise the overflow produces... So I have a sock filter in my sump and this solution in my overflow.

I guess I did not read this well... I guess your overflow is quite. So yes the solution is a sock filter.

How deep is the overflow? I've had great success with a flooded drain, you don't need to have any fancy elbows or any of that in, all you need is 2 overflows, one that takes the water the other is the emergency backup, and a gate valve. No bubbles, no noise, nothing.

Well my tank is 20" deep so I'm guessing that's how deep the overflow is? As far as the size it only has 1 hole in it and barely enough room to fit my durso. Not much room to drill another hole in there.

yes, my durso-T in the sump is 3/4" flex PVC to 3/4" barb-MPT elbow to 3/4" T with 3/4" hard PVC tubes going up and down.

If anything, the barb-MPT elbow that I'm using is causing some water to back up, but it was the most space efficient.

Pictures don't work so well since it is hiding in the back of the sump behind coralline encrusted dividers but I could try this weekend.

My overflows are similar to the beananimal durso, using 3/4" bulkheads and tubing.
