I'm buying a new rig

I'm buying a new truck.

Computers, a and stereos are far to wimpy to be referred to as "rigs". In a truck I can run both of them over.

the two big no no's of buying a car
1) not knowing what you will pay before you go there--research the price, the invoice price etc etc. Once you know what you are willing to pay. stick with it. Start off undercutting that a bit so that the sales guy has some thing to take away from you.
2) buying their extended coverage plans--those are the dealership's big money makers and customer sucker buys (this coming from a friend who works at a dealership down south)

Jeremy,
What type of truck are you looking for? new or used... any particular make? My niece works for a dealership in Antioch and while that may be far for you I should be able to eliminate the haggle factor. lmk and I'll see what she can do.

Thanks for the advice guys, I've done my research AFA models and price. One thing I have to my advantage is cash, I refuse to give banks money they did nothing to earn, and therefore I will be showing up with a suitcase of money.

Levi, I'm looking at 2008 Nissan Frontiers XE 2wd, manual trans, with under rail bedliner.

I don't know how much having cash is a benefit, dealerships make money from having you take out a loan for a car through them. Granted could have been different with my Prius because it was (still is) the hottest selling car out there but paying 100% upfront wasn't an advantage for them.

Try buying via fleet pricing (fleet manager) or via the interne.orgo through CSAA or Costco. Typically you can get it a few hundred over invoice. Do not talk to a sale person at the dealerships. You end up paying for their comission.

Okay only because I'm still incredibly bitter at the one dealer

DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE GO TO SAN FRANCISCO TOYOTA!!!!!!

Okay now that rant is off my chest - there's lots of deals to be found. I agree fleet dealer will give a greater flexibility in pricing.

Her dealorship doesn't sell new Nissans, sorry. If you want something used or in the GMC family she can help.

levi , I am going to be buying a new Chevy or GMC in about a month . I do buy fleet and it will be 3/4 ton or 1 ton . I never buy in the bay area due to the pressure and price . If she wants an easy sale let me know .

You're absolutely right Mike, for me it's a timing issue, I want to "help the dealer" get one of those "old" 2008 models off the showroom floor. I've had a couple of amazing offers (I've emailed at least 20 dealers), one of which is $8000 below sticker, but if you read the fine print it says you have to finance a certain percentage. Oh, well they're not getting my money.... Banks can kiss my ass.

I would get a slightly better price from a fleet dealer, however I'd have to settle for something as opposed to getting exactly what I want. One thing I keep in mind the whole time is, I have the money, not them. Right now car sales are at a low point, and there are tons of vehicles sitting on the lots. It's kinda fun having sales people run around and do all kinds of stuff for you.

Thanks for the heads up on SF Toyota, I've heard that they, and Napa/Vallejo Toy are both a bit sketchy. I really want to buy from Daland in Millbrae as I have some connections, but the sales person I am working with can't seem to get it through her thick skull that my client who is the commander of Millbrae Police Dept., and whose dad grew up with the owner of Daland wants me to get a real good deal. I'm thinking of asking him to walk in there in uniform to talk to her.

BTW, Tony the cash isn't just lying around my house, I'm doing some creative financing right now through family. Dad's my mattress if you know what I mean. I'm too pathetic with money, I just give it to him, he's real good with money, he spent a bunch of it on gold a while back, hence my sudden wealth.

Most bank will allow you to pay off early without any fee just double check on that before signing anything. I have to rebuild my credit so I have to finance my car with a very high interest rate >:( ..

That's what I'm doing with all of the dealers, I'm kind of a dick when it comes to spending money. You guys know me through something that gives me a lot of pleasure, in the real world I'm a bit of an a-hole ;)

Nissan made a ton of the six cyl models, but not too many of the 4s for some reason, I'm shocked at how difficult they are to find. Sadly, I'm kind of stuck using a regular dealer they have access to a ton more trucks. I do wonder if I'm getting quotes for the same truck from different dealers, only a couple of sales people have said they have one in stock, but they can get one from another dealer :D. That would be funny if they all scramble around trying to get the same vehicle.

How you guys think I should approach when something suitable is found? Do I act disinterested in order for them to entice me? Or do I just go in and tell them how much I wan to pay, and walk out if they don't take it?

This is my first time buying a new vehicle, in fact it will be my first with less than 100k miles on the odometer ;D

I'm a stuborn as fruck. I spent ~4hrs at a dealership with my wife's car. I had my price and knew I could get it from them. They tried...really hard, to win. When they played a game, I played a trick game back on them. Eventually they caved because they knew they couldn't budge me, already invested 4hrs on me with 3 of their foolios, and they would lose the small margin of profit. Being a stuborn a-hole paid off :p

What did you do though, that's what I'm interested in, I wanna play the car sales game. What's your "game"? Not that I'm going in to pretend I'm Tony, but what did they do to you?

Good point too, when they have invested that much time in you it makes them look bad if they can't "close the deal", even if they don't make money. Sales people are so crazy that way, lots of ego.
