Our first baby is arriving in early March!! Super excited!!!

With that said, I’m looking for you pro Neptune users’ inputs on the Trident.

With diaper duty taking priority, I’m vaguely considering an Apex Trident for parameter testing + converting my Kamoer X1 Pro from Alkalinity dosing to Tropic Marin All For Reef.

Any thoughts on this? Also, anyone looking to sell a Trident?

Does the trident work by itself? Or does it need any other expensive base units?

Working or non-working condition ;)

Thanks everyone!
Happy reefing!

Congrats Yash!

Automation is good. Trident requires an Apex to work. There are other non-Apex solutions for monitoring Alk as others have mentioned that don’t require a base system.

Congrats on the kiddo!

Now bad news, now is not the time to make massive changes to your tank, I would almost treat it as going on vacation... don't make big changes when you won't be able to fix things if something goes wrong... because you probably won't

The good news, doing an alkalinity test isn't a hard thing, super easy, quick, so you can still be on top of your tank.

The worse news, every waking moment will be one you want to sleep, so totally would get use to the idea of taking micronaps while your kiddo is sleeping :)

Thanks everyone for the wishes!
I was looking to monitor all three major params, and hence the trident over KHG.

I believe the operation should be as such:
“If you want just testing, get only the trident. If you want closed loop control, calibration and other fancy features, get the apex as well.”

I will keep an eye out on a defunct trident that simply powers on, and try to RE the data protocol.

My $.02 is that a used Apex EL is worth the initial investment to get you into the ecosystem, especially if you are software inclined. At this point, I would consider upgrading to a full Apex (on my system), but getting salinity for the cost delta isn't quite worth it for me.

Also, while we are enabling...a bigger tank would be more stable and easy to swap your livestock into...maybe a 30 all in one?

Congratulations! This is really exciting!

Congrats! Just try to get a used Apex EL and call it done, you can resell it without losing much money if you don't like it. you don't need Trident especially for a nano, it's nice to have only if you have lots of high-end corals imo.
