the tank is now up and running. thanks to the OG reefers for their help @Srt4eric @Arvin R @BleepBloopMunchMunch and a few others. need to attach the light, mp40ws, and do some cable management.

my initial plan was having 2 rails and running 14 lights for high par, but with pge and their 9am - 5pm schedule that changed a lot. i changed my light schedule to 10pm to 6am to save costs and keep heaters from turning on frequently (inspect tank before i head into work at 4am). if i had solar, that might change, but we will see in the future.

Solar is what saved me when I had 3 tanks

Yeah it's hard with the time of use. I do the 4-9pm higher bracket which is easy to manage from an appliance standpoint, but not great when you want your viewing photoperiod when you're home from work. That's probably when you're most active too now with the baby!

Yeah PG&E pricing was a conversation we had as well this summer, the monthly bills were insane! Last year too. Not only my tanks but her freshwater, and the 3000 gallon pond, the pool, the AC, the light bulbs, solar…

I decided against solar, don’t plan on being in this particular house long enough to get the ROI, and we missed out on the really helpful state and federal subsidies. My father in law is actually PAYING to have his excess solar put back in to the grid, installed about 5 years ago. I don’t understand how that went full 180. My sister got solar about a decade ago, and pays about 300-400/mo total, between two houses because of the plan they’re grandfathered in to. It costs me about that much per week during peak summer price swings!

I need to find a way to harness the clownfish in the nem wiggle power and convert that to electricity ;)

he just turned 1 and beginning to walk. he enjoys looking at the tank but can't work on it when he's around me.
