Equipment:

  • Cade 1800 Peninsula (265 gallon overall volume)
  • 3x ATI Straton LED
    • Lights at 60%
  • Deltec TwinTech automatic calcium reactor
  • MRC Kalk reactor
  • Spectrapure ATO
  • 2x Tunze 6155 powerhead
  • Reef wave 45
  • GHL Doser 2.1
    • Used for bacteria for now
  • Lifegard Pro Max UV sterilizer (90w)
  • Ultra Reef Typhoon UKD 200 skimmer

I got this tank in 2021 but it has been neglected for most of its life. Most of the growth happened when I was dosing triton with a steady dKH of 5.0.
  • Started off dosing Kalkwasser
  • Moved on to dosing triton + refugium
    • Got tired of filling up 4 containers and removed refugium
    • Barely performed any water changes
    • Didn’t check salinity as it jumped to about 1.030
    • Brought salinity down over a week. Corals we’re stressed.
  • Switched to all for reef
    • 170 mL per day
    • Nutrients bottomed out and my coral had burnt tips and a montipora had STN
  • Switched to my calcium reactor that I never setup
    • Maintaining a 7-8 dKH. Torch and hammers don’t like any higher.
    • Dosing nitrate to keep it at 3-5 ppm.
    • Tank is recovering and growing fast.
    • Night mode is being utilized. The reactor is only active during the day + 2 hours after photoperiod.
    • All corals growing and some recovering very fast

1. TSA the Fuzz - appears to be dying, but I'll try to nurse it back to health. **praying**

What’s the consensus on achieving this form versus stretching?high light? Hi flow? Both?
I didn't know milka shape was a thing. I had it perched up on a rock next to the neon green/yellow ORA Frogskin, but both colonies became too big to grow on the same rock. It received about 200-250 μmol/s of PAR with moderate flow at the end of the peninsula. However, I feel like my tank needs more flow.

How do you like the CADE tank so far (build quality, noise, clarity, overall look)? I'm thinking about getting one.

Also do you have a lid? Curious to see how the sump looks too!

I've only owned a Reefer 170, so I only have that to compare it to. It has much thicker glass and the build quality is better. I wish it had armored seams since I see some algae creeping into it the silicone. I wish the control panel were more deeply recessed into the stand since some controllers are huge and stick out. I opted to remove the glass panel covering the control panel. If you get a peninsula like, mine you should get those Cade Caddy's for more space for your external gear.

I'll post some pictures later when I have time but I only have media baskets and a skimmer. I took out the 4 filter socks because my nutrients are low and I have to dose nitrate and phosphate.
