Kessil

KLEMS SCA 50g cube

Parameters from today:
ALK- 8.4
CAL- 413

Going to bump up the doser for CAL a bit more to get it up to 425-450 range

Decided it was time to clean it the sump today. Made a large batch of saltwater, got the necessary towels, vinegar, pump, and scrubbing tools. Left the wavemakers on inside the tank to keep things moving. Then pulled the power on the pump, skimmer, dosers and ATO.

First cleaned the skimmer, then the pump. Then disassembled the manifold to clean it out. Then used a small maxi jet pump the force out the water into some 5g buckets. Stopped after the first 3g to move over the cheato and marine pure balls. Then pumped out the rest of the water I could. Then slowly took my time to slide the sump out of the stand where it's been for the past 2 years. Into the backyard, where I took a scrapper and hose to get rid of all the nasties that have been building up over that time. Amazing how much Coraline and algae builds up over time.

Then spent time putting everything back together and filling up the sump with fresh saltwater.... essentially performing a water change at the same time. Whole process took about 2 1/2 hours.

Like the extension of the mantle from this clam.

careful with those!!
they are not meant to hold liquids...the don't have the structural integrity
I would not fill those brute totes any more than half way
proceed with extreme caution, if you must

nice looking rack, though

When they are filled up they bow a bit...but the lid on top keeps them sturdy. Been using them for almost 2 years now.

Water Parameters:

We'll, since we're all stuck at home...I figured it was time to update the journal.
About two weeks ago I stopped off at Tap plastics to get some tubing and caps to make a bristle worm trap.
Took a few days but it finally made its way to the food and got it out of the display....all 6" of him.

At the same time I got some $1 scraps and a few squares and built a guard for the refugium. Seems to be working out nicely and blocks a lot of light from entering the skimmer and pump sections.

Congrats on bagging the serpent!
Did you use dark Acrylic? Do you think all their plastic scraps are reef safe?
Also, did you glue those squares shown in the photo?
Glad it seems to be working for you. I have just noticed I have light spillage so I will try your solution.
