I didn't think I had any jumpers but just found one of my favorite fish desiccating on the floor, bummed. Guess I need a screen to avoid this from happening again. Anyone have an extra one or know where I can get one for <$50 (Amazon). Thanks.

If you get a kit without a spline tool you can pick mine up from SF since I won’t use it again. It came with the Red Sea kit I used previously and was a huge benefit.

i bought the Red Sea kit. I have not installed yet. I did some research and like the Red Sea clip system better than the BRS version. It have a cleaner look. Even the BRS video mentioned this.

Also, i saw someone build 2 smaller cover (vs one single cover) for the 48" tank. I like this approach for 2x 24" cover. If you want to go with this approach, you may want to buy the 60" kit to create 2 piece cover. Again, i have not build mine, but this is the route i went with. 60" kit is like $15 more.

I'm planning to experiment putting 2x 24x20 1/8 inch plexiglass on top of the screen to make this a semi close lid. The RedSea kit provide the frame the plexiglass to rest on. Might be waste of time and money...

Thanks everyone for your input and offers.

@Newjack - can you post or PM me some pics of what you have. Like the "free" part just want to make sure it will work for me and don't want to waste your time. Thanks.

i’m pretty sure you can cut it down to a smaller size if needed.
or it can work as a temp. solution till you get something made permanent.

My tank isn't that deep but the length is right and I may be able to cut it down as a temp solution. How far away from Santa Clara are you?

I don't like the clips for many reasons. Instead after creating the screen, find some plastic and make extension to hold the screen from falling into tank.

Is this a rimless tank? Then the flanged corners are needed or use the Red Sea kit.

I have a rimmed 5' tank that has a center brace. I built 2 screens that sit on the inside of the rim. It has a small ledge and the screens fit great on them.

Yeah my tank is rimmed also with a center brace. What kit did you use?

I built a screen like this with a $20 sheet of polycarbonate (need to cut out the middle - I used a dremel which was slow going) and some 1/8 inch netting from brs. I cut strips of polycarbonate and sandwiched the netting between the poly strips and the poly frame with crazy glue. Works great.
