Lighting concerns for aquarium

hello I ahve a fixture featuring 2x 175W DE HQI, 4x 65W Compact Fluorescent, 6x Dual Bluemoon LED by Odyssea I would like to replace it with a T% fixture. What do you guys recommend (brand)?

T5's can produce your "shimmer" effect too~! -just depends on your bulb configuration and the manufactures you choose~!

Now that is something I am interested in! What manufacturers are producing T5s with "shimmer"?

Any diffuse light (think all fluorescents) can shimmer mildly if the water surface has enough agitation. It will still no where near come close to that of a point source MH. If you want a T5 setup to shimmer more, use less lights (in terms of shimmer, point source(MH) >> line source (single T5) > Psuedo planar source (array of T5)

Hey Piano,

There are many bulbs to choose from to get your desired color. Start with the link below and browse back over the MANY pages:

Just to give you an idea of how you could mix them here are my two previous setups:
Front -> Back on a 46G Bowfront
ATI Blue Plus
Coralife 50/50
UVL Super Actinic
UVL 10K
ATI Blue Plus
(This made a decent 15K look)

My current tank is harder to describe, but it has:
20K XM 250W MH
ATI Blue Plus x 4
Fuji Purple
UVL 75/25
ATI Aquablue Special
UVL Super Actinic

So, you can see it may take a mix of lights to get your desired results.

Thank you dygone and everybody.. This helps.. gives me more to think about.. but less veins bursting in my head trying lol

Orion. I found this link from grimreeper on reef central. Seems to give some basic guidlines for t5. http://tfivetesting.googlepages.com/
