Cali Kid Corals

Lumenarc bulbs

Anyone try them yet? I'm looking to get 2 20ks for my tank and I'm interested in feedback, the price is right for sure.

Dan claims that he gets more returns on Ushios than he does with the Lumenarcs and said the "no news is good news" when it comes to bulbs for the aquarium industry. He also was sure that the ANSI was rated for eballasts which IME is important for bulb function and output long term which is important to me because I use IceCap ballasts.

Either way this thread will have my own personal input AFA color, and growth when is all said and done ;)

I tried one of their bubls. Think it was a 10K a while back and didn't care for it much but it may just be bacuse I don't like 10K bulbs in general.

Lapsan used their bulbs IIRC, although he had 600 watt 20k bulbs, they didn't look too much like 20K bulbs, but then again I doubt you'll be running that much wattage anyways :D

Dan said they are true 20k bulbs running between 19,800 and 21,000k, we'll see, I'll have him fire some up when I get up there next week.

Well I got the bulbs, ballasts and new reflector today. I must say having full coverage is amazing, the evenness of the lighting make the display really stand out.

I'm somewhat unimpressed with the bulbs though, sure they are cheap, so what do you expect correct? I wasn't looking for a magic deal, but placed side by side both bulbs burned in a different color, no biggie they may shift to appear similar. The thing that tripped me out was looking at the bluer one (one was blueish the other pinkish blue) I thought "man that looks just like a Plusrite 20k", I went over to my cabinet pulled out a Plusrite and lo and behold they looked identical and I mean the exact same. I get Plusrites shipped to my door for less than $30, these bulbs were $45 ea. I now have two XMs in there one older one and a newer one, aside from the difference in brightness, I'm very happy with adding another reflector and bulb. You think I'm growin' coral now.... >) just wait J)

It's kinda disappointing to know there are only 3 MH factories on the planet :( Guess we need to learn which is(are) the good factory(ies)

10000% Agree.

I must say they aren't bad bulbs at all, but it really is difficult to find a good 20k bulb, and I'm not into bleaching corals to save money.

I just picked up 2x 150w 14KK from Advanced Lighting Solutions. I'm rather impressed with the color. I wanted to try the 150w before getting the 250w. I may just go with the Dual Arc they sell now though so I can do both 10KK and 20KK. Some one in the club needs to try them an I trust both Joy and Tullio to have a great product.

I think Rich needs to try them :)

One of my favorite bulbs is a generic brand, it has crap for PAR though, not that I care, but the numbers really suck bad. Too bad because the color is awesome (Reef Optix 14k).

Gresham, is the dual arc being sold publicly yet? I can't find the link (I also may be blind and staring right at it not noticing it)

Not sure if they've landed yet. I know they where on the way, but the few at teh event were the only ones in the country. I'll be getting them and a few new ballasts once they do land so I'll let you know. The ballasts are kick ass as well J)

Yah, but a higher grade then most use. I need to get more details as it was all verbal and we both know half that was lost while working my booth :) IIRC dimmable via DMC even. I know their t5s are dimmable via DMC. UL listed.

We run the Lumenarc bulbs here at OT. The bulbs according to how the ballast fires it up will be different in color even though they are the same K rating. The 20Ks we have in the store look more like a 14k at times. i talked to Paul at Lumenarc and we dropped off the new ones I tried a 14K and it looked way more blue than the 20K does. Although Lumenarc is hurting right now and the other bigger companies are just pushing their lights more and more
