I was originally going to pickup some Sea Sweeps for this new tank build but RB posted about these and for $20 each, I thought I'd give them a shot.
Initial impressions are that it seems to be well built. Finishes are smooth, plastic seems sturdy. The mounting system is pretty cool but does have some drawbacks.
The double hinge allows you to install it on corners, inside as well as outside. But there isn't a hinge where the pump attaches to the mount so you cannot move the pump head independently of the mount.
So if you mount on a flat surface, the middle of the sweep is straight ahead. You can't bias it very much in either direction. There IS a tiny bit of play but I don't think it will affect where it is pointing very much. If you mount it on the corner, middle is pretty much where the corner is pointed.
Uses suction cups. I'm going to try and adapt some magnets on to it.
Being that the motor is submersible, you can mount them INSIDE the the tank, unlike Sea Sweeps that are external and 1 of the reasons I was hesitant. I don't use canopies so they will be sitting on top of the tank.
These are just like our circulation pumps except they are fed by the return or close loop pump.
I'm going to put 1 inside my tank later tonight, maybe feed it with an MJ1200.
