Definitely look like them! Have you observed them eating coraline algae which Ive heard they do? If so I need to get a few

Got the tank cleaned up, got a little more coral, and got some flow going. I've had endless trouble with the wav pumps. I'm down to 3 working ones after starting with 10 new pumps three to two years ago. Not a great track record there.

I now have 4x reef octopus 4+ pumps, 3x mp 60's, and 3 wav pumps still going. 6 on my back wall and 4 on the peninsula.

Reef Octopus seems like the value play, but boy do those mp60's move water.

10 wavemakers and 10 lights, so I can let a few fail and still be good to go!

Rescaped and added coral, more trace elements in the dosing containers, more water changes and more amino acid and food. I'm hoping the calcification starts to take off

Thank you, that one is a "Hawaiian Tube Worm", or a feather duster worm. It is a cool tube worm that can shrink back into their tube and is relatively common. You can find them for sale for ~$15. I like having a few in a low flow, low light area. A fun fact is they have survived from around the Jurassic era 200 million years ago. Another one of those living fossils.

Oh! I thought it was a spiny fish or invert living in your peaceful tank. I actually have one from Florida but thought for sure I was seeing rigid spikes. Thanks for the fun fossil fact. I may try to add a fossil activity to my aqua class next year.

Some decent marine fossil sites here in the Bay Area from the top of Mt Diablo to the coastline. There fractured and pretty fragile but numerous. Used to take my daughter when they were younger hunting for fossils and petrified wood around here and also Northern California and Oregon areas.

Two weeks ago, I tried adding some anthias, knowing full well they are risky and have a high mortality rate. I got a couple to survive and still agree they are risky and have high mortality.

As a result, my blue and purple tang got a pretty good case of Ich. Long story short, my lfs recommended Polyplab Reef Safe Medic and it worked perfectly. I followed the directions and one bottle got me almost through the 10 day treatment with some heavy dosing the first couple days. I also fed heavy, added garlic, Selcon, and Vita Chem to freeze dried mysis and shredded nori. Also, a small paper shredder makes a great nori shredder to make angel hair pasta like nori.

Score one for disease management vs full quarantine on tank health.

Thanks, this stuff is a peroxide salt so likely doing something similar as it is an oxidizing agent.

Honestly, I dont think this might have helped.. The universe hasnt *yet invented an ich medication that's safe in reef tanks.. when I was researching how to treat ich (and trust me I did a looooooottttt of research), I came across multiple threads on different forums where people shared their experiences with the said medication, some claiming it is basically just a water conditioner.. you adding Vitamins and Selcon to the meals certainly must have helped.. do you run UV? I am glad you don't see the spots anymore, but I would keep an eye (hint: ich life-cycle). Ich is pain in the a**, ban ich!

I am reading lots of anecdotes that are similar to mine here from this thread started 4 years ago. Seems like there is something here that a number of people have found useful.

They all follow the directions on the bottle and it seems to knock back the issue. According to one super user over there, the UV helps to activate the OH's so running it while dosing h2o2 or reef medic helps. The theory is that the peroxide salt creates oxidizing agent in the water much like dosing hydrogen peroxide. This then screws with the free swimming (theront) life stage of the ich, which apparently is only most active from 2am-9am, cool. Some of them mention Rally Pro in addition and the combination helped them, I haven't heard of it until now but that all sounds promising. Any treatment for ich that can help and doesn't require catching fish out of an established reef gets my vote of confidence. I generally like the products that Polyplab has put out, which is why I was willing to dose it so quickly in the first place.

Within 3-4 days of starting the dose of the meds, the spots started to fade away on my purple and blue tang which were the worst affected. The instructions say to complete the 10 day treatment no matter how good things looks, so I did and the fish bounced back completely. I am not saying this is a magic bullet, but it seems like it helped to weaken the ich enough that the fish could fight off the infestation on their own, which is the whole base theory of disease management vs eradication and quarantine.

Yes, I read that before.. hence I asked do you run UV.. UV helps in more than 1 ways in helping keep the reefs disease free.. but if you don’t run UV, I will be surprised if this medicine worked for you.. when people say certain medications worked for them and certain people claim it didn’t, the reason is mostly because there setups aren’t the same.. I have also seen videos about H2O2 dosing in display tank by humble fish IIRC.. I actually used it while practicing tank transfer on my blue tang, but no 1st hand experience in display.. as you rightly said, it may not be the magic bullet, but like every medication in the market today (even Ich-X and Rid- Ich have some positive reviews on different forums), it might help certain individuals given their different setups, different stages of the outbreak etc.. I am honestly glad whatever it was, it actually worked for you

Peroxide did nothing for ich for me I've tried it twice once recently and once last year. I lost the entire tank of fish the first time trying reef safe magic potions plus the h20. They had a immediately lessening of the ick symptoms but than the ick came back with a vengeance it seems. The fish improved for like 2 days. Despite continuing the dosing even after that slight improvement it's like afterwards they got bad even faster.

Every tank is different and not everyone uses UV. Some practice management others full qt. Heck others just gamble and hope for the best. With so many variables to this equation there isn't any one solution that works for everyone. Even though from here on I'll personally stick to copper power for fish qt personally. Including qt
new corals and inverts.

Thanks for sharing your experience @MichaelB.. it Re emphasize that every setup is different.. as folks in the R2R thread shared, the said medication works better with UV.. but it’s not a one medication for all things ich kind of a situation.. point being, if someone comes to this thread and tries the said medication and it doesn’t work, they should know why it didn’t work.. it’s not like copper, which is supposed to cure ich if instructions are followed correctly

I wanted a chiller as backup to the fan, so my fish guy got a cheapish chiller from China and boy does this thing pump heat out and cool the tank fast. Have my sicce 2 or something pumping now into the chiller, through the UV, and draining in the main pump chamber.

Starting to organize the equipment a bit more

I'm stepping up my water moving game with a big pump I had laying around, too many adapters, a 55 gallon brute, 20' of 3/4" silicone hose and a ball valve at the end to give me on off control. It makes filling up 80 gallons of ato go way faster than carrying jugs across the house.

I also silenced the booster pump better with four dense foam pads meant for washing machines. I screwed those to the wall and mounted the booster pump with different screws to isolate the pump from the wall better. It works great actually and it's way quieter from the inside.
