The substance that you're seeing being shot up is most likely some extra zooanthellae that they're ridding themselves of as they adjust to the lighting and nutrient levels. You'll know when clams actually spawn when your water column looks murky and you see both sperm and eggs being expelled.

My tank did get murky for a week randomly.... but since my tank is so new, I think it was probably bacteria bloom. I got freebies on my frag plugs then! :)

Picked up a few frags at Neptune's yesterday. The gonipora is opening slowly. Also got an orange/gold cyphastrea I didn't grab a Pic of on my way out the door this morning.

The Aussie shipment yesterday and there's some gems in it, if you got a chance to see them. Robert should be fragging them up today if he hasn't done so already.

It's a 2 hour trip so I don't get there that often.

I put a 75w shit box light on my daughter's 20g tank a few days ago and the corals seem really happy.

The jokers are recovering, they were closed up for two weeks.

I was able to get a piece of this strange encrusting sponge to grow well in her tank. It reminds me of barnacles.

Tank update.

Had a big bacterial bloom a few weeks ago and lost a couple heads of torch but everything came out well. Nitrates dropped through the floor.

Got a huge clam then went on vacation and it died while I was gone. Having 20+ fish means not much was left to rot in the tank. Lost an acro while I was gone.

Came back and did a couple water changes just in case.

I was having trouble with my ph being 7.7 - 7.9 so I ran a line outside for the Skimmer intake. With the high Temps in Modesto, I was worried about this making the tank to hot but it's been OK (we keep the house at < 78° for my daughter's condition). This bumped it up to 7.9 - 8.1 so I bought a 5g jug of CO2 scrubber media and hooked them up. Ph is now 8.2 - 8.3 and the media is lasting 2 weeks.

A week later and nitrates are 1ppm and phosphates are 0.16ppm. Corals look great and fish are fat.

But let’s not forget you grow them in money and light them with money and feeds them with money too.

Ashburn please. You are starting to sound like a girlfriend, wife, and anyone else not in the hobby. [emoji23][emoji23]

Rule of thump - try not to change or add anything to your tank at least 2 weeks before leaving on vacation. You want the tank as stable as can be when you leave. Sorry for the loss of the clam.

Yeah. It was a great deal and I should have passed on it being so close to vacation.

My yellow coris wrasse spent at least the last 3 months living in the overflow since I had no way to catch him. Apparently he got timed of being lonely since he jumped his way back into the display today.
