New to Bay Area Reefers and the Reefing World

Hello,

I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself. I live in San Jose and just started with saltwater aquariums about 4 months ago. I have a Waterbox Marine EX 60.2 and a new Red Sea Reefer Max 350 G2+ on the way. I have a quarantine and copepod tank as well. Just joined Bay Area Reefers today as a paid member. Looking forward to learning a lot from this group and hopefully get some advice when needed.

Is there a guide somewhere to help me figure out some of the terms used on this site? For example, what is DBTC?

I posted earlier, but I was hoping to see if anyone has some extra Atomic Broccoli they would be willing to part with. I have ordered twice online and both times received just a 1-2 inch tiny piece for around $30 each. I was hoping for a large clump to start growing in the tank.

Please feel free to share anything you think I would find helpful in participating in this group

Thank You,
SanJoseReefer

Welcome to the club glad you joined us. Seeing you are in the southbay. I'm in santa clara myself and there is several more of us in the southbay as well feel free to reach out should you need advice or help. If your free there is a up coming coral farmers market in Sunnyvale we would love for you to stop by and say hello to some of the club members who will be manning the bar table.

Welcome! At one of the frag swaps last year we had probably bucket load of atomic broccoli shared with everyone so there's tons of it within the club. I have some in Dublin but that's probably too far. Be sure to check out the thread for our upcoming frag swap on November 2nd. Great way to meet people, talk shop, and get started on coral.

Check out the DBTC thread here. Same thing as atomic broccoli just goes by different names

I would love to come. How do I get information on the event?

Thank you. I am new to this and do not have any corals to share yet. They are all just beginner frags that I have purchased for my tank in the past several months. Can I still come to meet people and check things out?
You don't have to swap, it's a good event to meet everyone and see how a frag swap works. A lot of people bring extra corals and donate to newbies so they can participate in the swap and there are always extra corals at the end of the swap, this club is very generous.

Wow! That is awesome. Looking forward to being an active member of the group! Just bought my tickets for the Corals Farmers Market in September (for Friday Night and Saturday) and marked my calendar for November

It's a coral shown with corals, dry goods, raffles and other hobby related things where local vendors come to sale. Your don't need to buy anything if you don't want to it's also cool to look around. Just so you know what the farmers market is.

Frag swaps don't cost you anything to join other than 3 different corals not on ban list for entry. There is a post on the main page about the frag swap (which should have all the information you need) which is a actual event hosted by our club. The frag swaps are typically our most highly attended events of the year.

The farmers market we just set up a table there but isn't a club event.

You dont need corals to participate in the swap. I believe we let new members with no frags join in after the third round. Is that right @JVU?

Welcome. There are lots of ways to benefit from being a member and to give back when you can, potentially at a later time, since you are only starting.

I assume you know the concerns floating around about Red Sea tanks, including newer models, for which we are also collecting data here. Many seem to have them without worries, while others have had to remodel their living rooms.

Also, we love tank journals, and provide solicited and unsolicited advice to posts. It would be great to see yours in the near future.
