Nori feeder… what do you use?

So I’ve been using a clip to feed my tangs, but I feel after 8 hours or so, it fals put or gets ripped and ends up in the sump.

What do you guys use?

I usually use the TLF magnet clip, but I cut the nori into small pieces and clip a stack of them, rather than larger sheets. Prevents as much wastes when they tear off a piece. But it’s a pain and makes me not feel like feeding nori. Sometimes I just fold them small because it’s easier, but more likely to tear off larger pieces.

I have the TLF magnet pouch Derek likes, but I find the holes are way too small. Like ridiculously small- what fish are they designed for? I think the holes are smaller than my tang’s mouths. I was thinking of cutting them larger.

The OctoAquatics and saltwater solutions ones look interesting.

I use the two little fishes pouch, but I mostly do what @Coral reefer said. Tank algae plus standard food mostly.

The pouch is nice because it comes with two pouches, and you can buy more, so you can get everything setup in a plastic bag and just swap the pouches, such as when traveling and someone else is doing it

I have bristletooth & normal tangs, rabbit fish (foxfaces), a coral beauty, even my wrasses, all that eat from it. None have any problems getting food. I did have to first introduce them to it by having some hang out of it, but now if I put it in they all go quickly.

The bristletoothes I don't think are great at it. A lawnmower blenny I have I believe similarly struggles. However they can get loose pieces for sure and do bite at it so I assume they get some.

I use this one and buy the bigger square sheets and cut those into four squares. Then when I use this i just fold the square in half.

I have this one as well, it’s OK. I’m not a fan of all the stuff that gets trapped inside - you have to scrub and rinse it every day otherwise you’ll have a bunch of decay in the tank if you slack off. Also forces the fish to compete for space and potentially get aggressive as with even a clip it can be accessed from numerous sides/angles so they’re not fighting for the same area. Though most of that was the maroon clown, who are known a-holes!

He’s in a different tank now, pestered everyone so much the entire tank finally turned, ganged up, and kicked his ass. Never seen anything like it. Pretty sure even the conch got a few licks in!

I used it pretty often and when I grab my new square I wipe in into a pile and put the new piece over it.

Yeah, it’s probably just me worrying about things that don’t need to be worried about ;)

I generally over feed - so try to be conscientious about what I leave sitting in there long term(ish) as I don’t always take care of it daily. Hell maybe once or twice a week to be honest!

I like the pouches.. wrap nori around frozen cubes and stuff in pouch.. My problem is the both the gold spot and fox face 6-8 inches have learned to pull large folded sheets through the little holes or pull the pouches off the magnet lol so use them mainly for frozen cubes now.. The IM blue food grazers work good but gota toss in the leftover trapped nori in the tank when changing which is gone in 20 seconds! The clip created alot more aggressive eating behaviors unless use multiple.. Going to add the Nori Nibbler soon!

@SupraSaltyReefer is this the thing your tangs are eating off of in that video you just posted?
Yes I’ve been using the Nori Nibbler the past few months. Works great and definitely makes the nori last longer, but kinda cumbersome to take the pvc out and wrap the half sheet of nori around it then twist the 3D printed grate back over it. It looks cool tho.

I also use a TLF Mega Veggie Mag with plastic gutter guard mesh to prevent the tangs from tearing apart the nori too quickly. Super quick to fold the nori and put it inside the mesh and back on the clip. The 20ft roll will last you forever and you can throw away and replace the mesh very easily.

While we are on the subject. This is the nori I use. My tangs love it. Cheap and Amazon sends it quickly when it’s in stock.

After messing with clips, I'll usually just take a small section of PVC pipe, wrap the nori sheet around it, and rubber band the nori to the pipe. Sinks to the bottom and lets them do a feeding frenzy.

Main problem I have with most of them is that they are either black or have a color. This would bother me visually. Also, some of them look complicated to operate. I took another picture of the one I propose since this is not shown well on the website. It takes 10 seconds to add the sheet, slide it over, screw it back in. I feed seaweed daily.

Is there a screw for the top and bottom like it looks? I think i would like this more than what I have because from the looks of the design I could stack several pieces and clamp it down with the two screws.

One black screw at the bottom. You need to slide it in. I use two pieces at the time but it looks like it can fit 3-4 pieces. Have not tried more than two though.
